Daredevil #100 sees Ann Nocenti returning to Hell’s Kitchen alongside Paulo Siqueira, Ty Templeton and Dan Panosian for a tale from Elektra’s past.
The 100th comic book bearing Elektra Natchios’ name will release in April, detailing the Woman Without Fear’s first encounter with Typhoid Mary.
Elektra #100 is penned by Ann Nocenti, who originally took over writing duties on Daredevil following Frank Miller’s famous run on the character in the ’80s. Paulo Siqueira and Ty Templeton are among the artists joining her on the book, which features a cover by Dan Panosian.
“When I was roaming Hell’s Kitchen back in the 1980s spinning Daredevil and Typhoid tales with John Romita Jr., Elektra had just died in Frank Miller’s run, and resurrecting her was taboo,” Nocenti said. “So when editor Devin Lewis asked if I would like to do an Elektra versus Typhoid story, I was instantly hooked. I read Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto’s fabulous Daredevil stories, and was inspired by the tense character triangles they set up… It has been a blast to return to Hell’s Kitchen!”
Elektra #100 sees Wilson Fisk/Kingpin ordering Typhoid to protect a woman Elektra has been hired to assassinate. As Elektra and Typhoid clash, the story will reveal the details of how “a young Elektra, locked up for a ‘rest cure’ after the death of her father, meets young Mary Walker in the Creed Psych Ward,” Nocenti said.
Typhoid Mary was created by Nocenti and debuted in 1988’s Daredevil #254. She recently married the Kingpin in Daredevil #36 and has supported her husband in his drive to ban all superheroes from New York City in the pages of the ongoing six-issue limited series Devil’s Reign, written by Zdarsky and Checchetto.
Meanwhile, Elektra donned her own version of Matt Murdock’s famous horned suit in Daredevil #25 and took to defending Hell’s Kitchen after Matt was imprisoned. Following his release, she has fought alongside her on-and-off lover and abided by his no-killing code — to the point where Kingpin taunted her in Devil’s Reign #2, calling her “neutered.”
Elektra debuted in 1981’s Daredevil #168 and was created by Frank Miller. Renowned for her distinctive red outfit, twin sai blades and dramatic death at the hands of Bullseye in Daredevil #181, Elektra has endured over the decades as one of the most important members of Daredevil’s supporting cast. Her notable solo comics over the years include the eight-issue limited series Elektra: Assassin, which was released in 1986 and ’87 by Miller and Bill Sienkiewicz, and a 35-issue series that ran from 2001 to 2004 under Marvel’s Marvel Knights imprint. The character also appeared in both the 2003 Daredevil film, where she was played by Jennifer Garner, and Season 2 of the Netflix Daredevil series, where Élodie Yung portrayed her.
