Ben Reilly and Peter Parker battle it out in March’s Amazing Spider-Man #93, the grand finale of the “BEYOND” storyline.
This March, the conclusion of Marvel Comics’ “BEYOND” storyline pits Spider-Man against Spider-Man.
The “BEYOND” storyline has seen Ben Reilly, the infamous genetic clone of Peter Parker, once again take up the mantle of Spider-Man, this time at the behest of the Beyond Corporation. And if the cover art for March’s Amazing Spider-Man #93 is anything to go on, it looks like Peter wants the title back, by any means necessary. However, Marvel promises that “you may surprise yourself with who you’re rooting for” to come out on top in this story’s grand finale.
“Over the past few months, Zeb Wells, Patrick Gleason, Cody Ziglar, Kelly Thompson and Saladin Ahmed have delivered a Spider-Man saga for the ages in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man! And the biggest surprises of the BEYOND era are still yet to come,” Marvel wrote in an official release.
“Stick around to catch more adventures of Ben Reilly as Spider-Man, discover new secrets behind the Beyond corporation, and meet terrifying additions to Spider-Man’s legendary rogues gallery like Queen Goblin. Then witness Ben Reilly and Peter Parker go web to web with the future of Spider-Man up for grabs as the Beyond era come to an end in March!” the publisher continued, “And finally, the finale of ‘BEYOND’ arrives in Amazing Spider-Man #93. Writer Zeb Wells and artist Patrick Gleason close out this hit run with an unforgettable showdown. And you may surprise yourself with who you’re rooting for…”
Created by Gerry Conway and Ross Andru, Ben Reilly — originally known as simply “Spider-Clone” — first appeared in 1975’s Amazing Spider-Man #149. The issue serves as a precursor to the infamous “Clone Saga,” which kicked off proper nearly 20 years later. In 1994’s Spider-Man #51, Peter Parker’s clone adopted the name Ben Reilly — a reference to Peter’s childhood guardians Uncle Ben Parker and Aunt May Parker (née Reilly).
Ben Reilly has taken on multiple alter egos over the years, arguably the most famous of which being the Scarlet Spider, which he debuted in 1994’s Web of Spider-Man #118. Back in the ’90s, Ben even had a stint as the Marvel Universe’s main Spider-Man, taking over for Peter starting with Sensational Spider-Man #0, cover-dated January 1996.
Written by Zeb Wells and illustrated by Patrick Gleason, Amazing Spider-Man #93 goes on sale in March 2022 from Marvel Comics.
