Featuring a cover that shows the eponymous superhero socking Adolf Hitler on the jaw, Captain America Comics #1 went on to sell over 1 million copies.

Cap has been a staple of Marvel ever since, starring in countless comic books, not to mention achieving massive box office success as a member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in which he was played by Chris Evans. While Evans has apparently departed the franchise for the time being, Steve’s legacy was further explored in the Disney+ original series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which ultimately sees Sam Wilson/the Falcon (Anthony Mackie) assume the mantle of Captain America.
