Marvel Fans Take Issue With Captain America Twitter Account Promoting Captain Carter

[ad_1]

Some Marvel fans are taking issue with the official Captain America Twitter account being used to promote Captain Carter instead of Sam Wilson.

Some Marvel fans are taking issue with the decision of Marvel’s social media marketing department to have Captain Carter take over the official Captain America Twitter account as part of a tie-in with the new What If…? streaming series on Disney+.

The issue that the fans have is that Carter’s “takeover” has displaced Sam Wilson from his role on the official Captain America account, so the fans feel that it is a sign of disrespect to Sam to take him away from the account that he only very recently became the “star” of following the finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (and the subsequent announcement of Captain America 4, with Sam Wilson as Captain America).

One fan tweeted, “i can’t believe marvel changed the captain america page from sam wilson to peggy it’s not fake😭”

Another fan tweeted, “sam wilson has been captain america for a minute and marvel is already replacing him with a white woman.”

Another fan noted on Twitter, “look i’m excited for peggy content but NOT like this. she’s not even captain america – make a new account for captain carter and put Sam Wilson back where he belongs.”

The fact that the alternate reality version of Peggy Carter is not even actually Captain America was something that a number of other fans took issue with online, with another fan tweeting, “how are they gonna put her on the captain AMERICA page when she’s sporting straight BRITISH wear Loudly crying faceLoudly crying face give this account back to sam wilson and make her a new one??”

Naturally, there were a number of memes shared about the issue, as well, including a side eyes one from Spongebob Squarepants

Fans also pointed out that Marvel hasn’t changed the Guardians of the Galaxy Twitter account to one starring T’Challa, who will become Star-Lord in an upcoming What If..? episode, with one fan noting, “so they can change CAPTAIN AMERICA SAM WILSON to captain carter but they can’t change the guardians to t’challa oh ok ok”

Another fan followed up on that point while noting that you would think that using the official What If…? Twitter account would have been enough for the marketing of the series…

Some fans defended the move, like one fan who noted, “People who asking for Sam Wilson back as Captain America just chill and have patience. This is just marketing for What if? and #CaptainCarter In few weeks after episode aired, everything will get back to normal, She is not replacing him.”
