A preview for Avengers Annual #1 sees Vision’s MCU origin altered with a new synthezoid and a different Infinity Stone.
Vision was brought to life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe when a synthezoid body merged with an Infinity Stone. A preview for The Avengers Annual #1 sees this origin recreated with a twist.
The book is the final chapter in Marvel’s Infinite Destinies saga, which has stretched across eight annual issues from different series by Marvel Comics. Each issue has revealed or at least hinted at a Stone-Bearer (someone who hosts an Infinity Stone within their person), and has each included a chapter in the backup story, Infinite Fury. This annual issue introduces readers to the latest Stone-Bearer, a synthezoid who calls themself “Multitude.”
The preview opens with Multitude coming to after blacking out, only to see masked bodies and weapons on the floor of a highway rest stop. Multitude has bonded with the Soul Stone, which has taken control over their body. Multitude is able to regain control after seeing their friend wounded on the floor, rushing to his side.
The moment spins Vision’s origin in Avengers: Age of Ultron. In the film, Vision was created when Tony Stark and Bruce Banner combined a vibranium body constructed by Ultron with the Mind Stone. Captain America tried to stop the two, but Vision was born with an electrical surge provided by Thor, immediately moving to attack the Avengers in confusion, the violence quickly ceasing.
In the preview, the two Avengers present at Vision’s creation, Iron Man and Captain America, arrive to investigate the Infinity Stone related activity linked to Multitude. Upon seeing the synthezoid and the destruction around them, the two heroes immediately move to apprehend Multitude and prevent anymore casualties. While this is happening, the Soul Stone has a dialogue with the synthezoid within their mind, similar to how Eddie Brock communicates with the Venom symbiote.
The Soul Stone implants the worst thoughts into Multitude’s head, claiming that the Avengers want the power of the stone and will disassemble the synthezoid to get it. The Soul Stone retakes control over Multitude’s body to face Iron Man and Captain America, summoning the souls of beings that even includes the Juggernaut. It appears that the conflict between Captain America, Iron Man and Multitude will not be as brief as it was in the film with Vision.
