The likes of Adam Kubert, Arthur Adams and Joe Bennett lend their talents to a new variant cover series celebrating Phase 1 of the MCU.
Marvel is celebrating Phase 1 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a series of variant covers hitting books in November.
The “Infinity Sage Phase 1 Variant Covers” series highlights major moments that defined the cinematic versions of Marvel’s heroes, from Tony Stark’s makeshift armor in 2008’s Iron Man to the assembling of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes against Loki’s Chitauri troops in 2012’s The Avengers.
More specifically, Marco Checcetto draws Iron Man’s armor evolution for the cover of Iron Man #14. Joe Bennett draws Hulk’s climactic battle with the Abomination, seen on screen in The Incredible Hulk, for Hulk #1, the newest series featuring Bruce Banner’s angry alter ego. Iron Man’s fight alongside War Machine against Ivan Vanko’s drones in Iron Man 2 is illustrated for the cover of Captain America/Iron Man #1 by Taurin Clarke, with the issue receiving another variant by Adam Kubert inspired by Captain America: The First Avenger. Finally, Ema Lupacchino depicts the two sons of Odin with their father on the cover of Thor #19, and Arthur Adams rounds off the finale of the MCU’s Phase 1 with an Avengers #50 cover inspired by the Battle of New York.
The Hulk #1 variant will go on sale Nov. 3, while Avengers #50, Iron Man #14 and Thor #19 hit comic shops Nov. 17. Captain America/Iron Man #1 is the last book to come out, with its two MCU variant covers releasing on Nov. 24.
Phase 1 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, now referred to as “Avengers Assembled,” encompassed six films over four years, grossing over $3.8 billion worldwide. The continuity of the Marvel films is now on Phase 4.
