Modern Horizons 2 on MTGO

Fun and excitement are on the horizon when Modern Horizons 2 makes its debut this Thursday, June 3! Limited League play begins at 10 a.m. Pacific (17:00 UTC) that day and will feature Sealed, Draft, and Phantom Draft. Those Leagues will run until the release of Adventures in the Forgotten Realms in July.

Cards from the set are now legal in all formats. This set is non-redeemable.

Modern Horizons 2 Draft League

Entry Options:

  • 25 Event Tickets
  • 3 Modern Horizons 2 boosters + 4 Event Tickets
  • 250 Play Points

Prizes:

  • 3 wins: 6 Modern Horizons 2 boosters + 2 Qualifier Points
  • 2 wins: 2 Modern Horizons 2 boosters

Modern Horizons 2 Sealed League

Entry Options:

  • 45 Event Tickets
  • 6 Modern Horizons 2 boosters + 3 Event Tickets
  • 450 Play Points

Prizes:

  • 5 wins: 6 Modern Horizons 2 boosters + 675 Play Points + 5 Qualifier Points
  • 4 wins: 3 Modern Horizons 2 boosters + 450 Play Points + 2 Qualifier Points
  • 3 wins: 1 Modern Horizons 2 booster + 225 Play Points + 1 Qualifier Point

Modern Horizons 2 Phantom Draft League

Entry Options:

  • 1 win: 50 Play Points

Over the Horizon Series Starts Friday

We have a special group of high-level Modern Horizons 2 Limited events in store for you during the month of June—the Over the Horizon Series!

This series will feature three events on each of three weekends—earn six wins in one of these tournaments and you will earn a Token good for entry into the Over the Horizon Championship on Saturday, June 26, at 7 a.m. Pacific (14:00 UTC)!

Top finishers in the Championship will earn sets of both the original Modern Horizons and Modern Horizons 2, while the winner walks away with four sets of each!

Over the Horizon: Weeks 2–3

Start Times:

  • Friday, June 11, at 2 p.m. Pacific (21:00 UTC)
  • Saturday, June 12, at 1 a.m. Pacific (08:00 UTC)
  • Sunday, June 13, at 7 a.m. Pacific (14:00 UTC)
  • NOTE: The same day/time combinations will be used on the weekend of June 18–20.

Entry Options:

  • 50 Event Tickets
  • 500 Play Points
  • 40 MOCS Season 2 Qualifier Points

Product: 6 Modern Horizons 2 boosters. Cards opened will be added to players’ collections.

Size: 129–672 players

Format: Sealed Deck—20-minute deck-building time, followed by eight rounds of Swiss. There is no playoff.

Round Length: 25 minutes per player, first to win two matches

Prizes:

  • 8 Wins: 24 Modern Horizons 2 Boosters, Limited Championship Entry Token
  • 7 Wins: 12 Modern Horizons 2 Boosters, Limited Championship Entry Token
  • 6 Wins: 9 Modern Horizons 2 Boosters, Limited Championship Entry Token
  • 5 Wins: 6 Modern Horizons 2 Boosters

Over the Horizon Championship

Start Time: Saturday, June 26, at 7 a.m. Pacific (14:00 UTC)

Entry Options: 1 Limited Championship Entry Token

  • NOTE: Unused or extra Limited Championship Entry Tokens will be removed from collections at the next downtime.

Product: 6 Modern Horizons 2 boosters, plus 3 Modern Horizons 2 boosters in the Top 8 draft. Cards opened will be added to players’ collections.

Format: Sealed Deck—20-minute deck-building time, followed by a number of Swiss rounds based on attendance, followed by a Top 8 draft with single-elimination playoff.

Round Length: 25 minutes per player, first to win two matches

Prizes:

  • 1st: 1,000 Play Points, 200 Treasure Chests, 4 regular Modern Horizons sets, and 4 regular Modern Horizons 2 sets
  • 2nd: 750 Play Points, 150 Treasure Chests, 2 regular Modern Horizons sets, and 2 regular Modern Horizons 2 sets
  • 3rd–4th: 600 Play Points, 100 Treasure Chests, 1 regular Modern Horizons set, and 1 regular Modern Horizons 2 set
  • 5th–8th: 450 Play Points, 50 Treasure Chests, 1 regular Modern Horizons set, and 1 regular Modern Horizons 2 set
  • 9th–16th: 300 Play Points, 25 Treasure Chests, and 1 regular Modern Horizons 2 set
  • 17th–32nd: 300 Play Points, 15 Treasure Chests
  • 33rd–64th: 150 Play Points, 5 Treasure Chests

Please note: Qualifier and Super Qualifier events will return to MTGO in late July or early August, before the end of MOCS Season 2.


Treasure Chest Updates

Treasure Chests have been updated with the release of Modern Horizons 2. Full details will be available soon on the Treasure Chest Page (apologies for the delay).

Select Modern Horizons 2 promo cards have been added to the curated list. New Modern Horizons 2 cards will also appear in the rare/mythic rare slot (excluding reprints that are new to Modern).

The following Treasure Chest avatars have been added to the Avatar Slot:

Modern Horizons 2 Booster Bundles (50 packs) and Regular and Premium sets have been added to the curated list (note that Modern Horizons 2 is not eligible for redemption).


Pioneer Challenge Update

We have reduced the minimum number of players required for the weekly Pioneer Challenge event on Saturdays from 64 to 32. This will take effect starting this Saturday, June 16.

 


Magic Online Format Challenges Every Weekend

Format Challenges are the first step toward qualifying for Premier Play through your favorite Magic formats and provide excellent prizes for those looking to test their mettle in their favorite formats. Learn more about Premier Play qualification.

Magic Online‘s Format Challenges run once on Saturdays and once on Sundays for each Constructed format! On weekends featuring Showcase Challenge events, the Format Challenge that starts at either 6 a.m., 8 a.m., or 10 a.m. Pacific time is pre-empted by the Showcase Challenge—Format Challenges scheduled at other times remain in place. NOTE: Pauper and Standard Challenges are never pre-empted.

Next Downtime July 7

The next downtime will be on Wednesday, July 7, beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing until noon. This is for the release of Adventures in Forgotten Realms. All times listed are Pacific time (UTC-7).
