Lord Zedd Just Revealed the Secret of the Power Rangers’ Greatest Strength

[ad_1]

The greatest weapon in the Power Rangers’ arsenal is one of the biggest tropes in the franchise, and an iconic enemy just revealed how powerful it is.

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Mighty Morphin #13, available now from Boom! Studios.

The Power Rangers have taken on all manner of extraterrestrial threats over the years, from alien tyrants to cosmic witches, and they have always managed to emerge victorious no matter what comes their way. This is largely due to the amazing arsenal of high-tech weapons and superpowered suits right at their fingertips, but Power Coins and Megazords aren’t the only things that the heroes have going for them. In fact, their true superpower is also one of the biggest tropes of the franchise. Even if it’s somewhat campy, the unbeatable nature of the Power Rangers still holds true, and Lord Zedd has just offered that as a reminder to the heroes’ latest greatest enemy.

Things have never been bleaker for the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The very same Guardians of Eltar who their own mentor once commanded have arrived with an all-out invasion of their world, beginning with Supreme Guardian Zartus destroying Zordon’s energy chamber in a vicious fashion. As Zartus’ elite Sentry Force Four bearing down on them, the Rangers are helpless to do anything about the attack, leaving Zartus free to visit an old friend. The Supreme Guardian transmits a hologram straight to Bandora Palace for an impromptu meeting with Lord Zedd. Their shared history doesn’t mean the two are on any sort of friendly terms, though that doesn’t stop Zartus from gloating about his achievements. Zedd is understandably hesitant to believe that Zartus has truly killed Zordon, and once Zartus begins to lay out his grand scheme Zedd can’t help but point out the one thing the Supreme Guardian hasn’t accounted for. It might be ridiculous, but Mighty Morphin #13 by Ryan Parrott, Marco Renna, Walter Baiamonte, Sara Antonellini, Katia Ranalli, and Ed Dukeshire make it perfectly clear that the Power Rangers’ plot armor is stronger than any threat.

Zedd is quick to remind Zartus that he knows better than anyone just how lucky the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers really are, to the point that it is an innate part of them now. He tells Zartus in no uncertain terms that “The Rangers could be broken and lying at your feet, but just before you deliver the final strike… Something will happen. Perhaps overconfidence will blind you to some crucial detail or a foe you left for dead will suddenly reappear, but you will fail.” It’s an ominous statement, as well as one that Zartus almost immediately proves true by eschewing it entirely.

Zartus’ single-minded bloodlust has certainly made him a credible threat, but he has also shown the sort of blind confidence that has led to the downfall of so many other villains before him. There is also the matter of all the other superpowers in this particular war with their own reasons to turn against Zartus. The Phantom Ranger has already been seen in action, albeit in secret, while the Empyreals that Zartus has been commanding are plotting against him in secret, not to mention the impending arrival of Dark Specter who will surely have his own plans for the Power Rangers. With so many factors unaccounted for, it’s hard to imagine a scenario where Zartus isn’t caught unaware and knocked off his throne. Unfortunately, even if that holds true, it isn’t a guaranteed win for the heroes.

The Phantom Ranger might be on the heroes’ side, but the likes of the Empyreals and Dark Specter have nothing but ill intent for the Power Rangers. If it is either of them who interfere in the Eltarian invasion, there is no telling how much worse things could get even if they finish the fight against Zartus. Of course, it wouldn’t be the worst thing if the Rangers’ enemies thinned each other out before turning their attention back towards Earth. No matter how it happens, there is no doubt that Lord Zedd is absolutely right in his assumptions. Now the only question left is whether the Power Rangers are going to be better off when the Eltarian Invasion is over with.
