Lord of the Rings RPG The One Ring Announces Official Release Date

[ad_1]

The One Ring’s publisher reveals the official release date for the second edition of the tabletop RPG based on J. R. R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth epics.

The publishers of The One Ring Roleplaying Game, the tabletop RPG based on J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, recently confirmed the release date.

Free League Publishing, the international branch of the Swedish game and book publisher Fria Ligan, announced the second edition of the game will release on March 22. Free League stated, “With The One Ring™, Middle-earth is yours to explore — you will travel the land searching for clues about the return of the Shadow, and have the chance to play a part in the struggle against the Enemy…” The One Ring‘s latest version will be published in partnership with Sophisticated Games, well-known for developing board games based on Tolkien’s Middle-earth.

The newest edition of The One Ring is set in the year 2965 of the Third Age, 20 years after the events of The Hobbit. The game takes place in the realm of Eriador, which lies west of the Misty Mountains and contains notable locations, such as Rivendell, Bree and the Shire. The RPG’s campaign will pay particular attention to the growing evils of Middle-earth as Sauron slowly returns to power.

Players will be tasked with investigating “Rumors of strange things happening outside the borders of civilized lands,” all pointing towards the Dark Lord’s reemergence. However, the product description emphasizes that, as the story of The Lord of the Rings is 50 years away, there is plenty of room to roleplay and imagine original stories unrelated to Tolkien’s epic saga.

The One Ring bundle contains a variety of items and content for players to get started, including the core rules volume, a starter set for the game and cloth maps of the Shire and Eriador. There are also updated rules for the second edition that rework travel, combat and interactions, as well as rules and suggestions for the Loremaster.

On the day of the game’s announcement, Amazon released a host of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power posters. Unlike the game, the show is set during the Second Age of Middle-earth and could feature familiar Lord of the Rings characters, including Elrond and Isildur.

The One Ring Roleplaying Game is available for pre-order now.
