Loki: Unanswered Questions in Season 1

[ad_1]

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the Season 1 finale of Loki, “For All Time. Always.,” streaming now on Disney+.

The Loki TV series hinted at it, but many didn’t believe or expect the finale to shake the core of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in such a big way. As the first season ends, Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) kills He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors) at the Citadel to cause the Sacred Timeline to fray, thus unraveling the multiverse which the omnipotent being tried to keep intact using the Time Variance Authority. With Tom Hiddleston’s Loki in a panic now that he finally understands what’s at stake and the error Sylvie commits, let’s break down the biggest questions that went unanswered.

Where is Judge Renslayer?

Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s Ravonna Renslayer asked for intel from Miss Minutes on the secrets of the TVA but was given something else audiences didn’t get to see. After a minor scuffle with Mobius, it resulted in her teleporting out to find “free will.” However, it’s unclear as to where she went.

She may find other Variants and swap one out to get a life of her own or Miss Minutes might have sent her away to protect the TVA. Renslayer may even be a  contingency plan in case the real boss fell per Sylvie’s actions. The point is, between her mysterious quest, the destination she’s at and the breaking of the timestream, Renslayer will have a big role to play in hopefully restoring order.

What Happened to the Void?

The Void is at the End of All Time and should be untouched. However, with the timeline’s rewriting — as seen with Mobius no longer remembering Loki — it’s unknown if this place was unaffected. The Wasteland was where everything that got pruned was dumped, so it remains to be seen what’s happened to it, especially inhabitants such as Kid Loki and President Loki. There might be others there that could prove key moving forward, such as Hunter C-20.

Most of all, Alioth the devouring cloud, will be of interest as this is what He Who Remains used to trim deviant timelines and keep order. It was a key tool he used to stop the first Multiversal War, so the other evil Kangs might come to kill it, or they could conquer and control the being. This would result in Alioth being the war dog and other worlds being held hostage.

How Do the Other Kangs Know to Come?

He Who Remains made it clear once he died, the other versions of himself would invade, with an ominous “See you soon!” uttered to Sylvie, striking fear in the viewers’ hearts. But it’s not known how they arrived as he never specified if they were in prison. It’s not like there’s a Horn of Gondor a la Lord of the Rings to beckon them over to his Citadel.

This leaves fans wondering if they’re trapped in their realities and what could signal to them there’s been a breach in the fabric that kept everything together and them out of sight. If they’ve been lumped together after pruning, akin to the Lokis in the Void, it won’t be a pretty sight at all.

Is There One Evil Kang as Leader?

Jonathan Majors as Kang/He Who Remains in the Loki Season 1 finale

The origin story revealed the Kangs got greedy, and a civil war ensued, resulting in He Who Remains using Alioth, generated from all the rifts in space and time, to defeat them. Now, while a council of Kangs is interesting, it might be that there’s one big bad controlling everyone, a la Thanos and his minions. This could be the Kang who began the war, turning others evil in order to ravage different universes.

With a Kang confirmed for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, fans are curious if this will be that main one and if he’ll appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. There have been different versions of Kang in the comics, such as Immortus (who was similar to He Who Remains), the younger Iron Lad and even Rama-Tut. So it’ll be interesting to find out which Kang really caused the others to break bad and if he’s the ruler of them all.

What Happened to Sylvie?

After killing He Who Remains, Sylvie seemed to find peace for how her family was taken from her. Still, it might be temporary. As she watches time fracture as it moves past the “threshold,” she might have realized what she did and fled through another portal. It could be she’s gone into hiding again or maybe to a world to see if she can find some semblance of family.

There’s also a chance she wants to destroy the TVA and could return to finish the job. However, should the Kangs come to the Citadel after their oppressor was murdered, they could kill Sylvie. Who knows, maybe they’d see her as an ally or keep her as a pet. With Loki confirmed for Season 2, it feels like her story and her male Variant’s are far from over, so this definitely puts him and the Kangs on a collision course.

What Happened to the TVA?

Loki Owen Wilson Mobius

With time altered and Mobius and Hunter B-20 having no clue who Loki is, we need to know more about the Kang managing them. He’s the main boss, evidenced by Loki viewing the giant statue of the overlord, but it leaves fans wondering what role the other Kangs have to play under this leader or if there are other versions of the TVA now existing. Mobius and B-20 mentioned 63 branches they’d have to prune in this case, so it might be other worlds have TVAs too.

It would allow their respective Kangs to keep control a bit better, akin to what He Who Remains did for one timeline. Ultimately, with all this chaos ensuing, Loki will have to quickly figure out what his next move with the organization he’s presently at because with no one remembering him, it doesn’t seem like he’s got allies to bring the Sacred Timeline back. It’s why folks like the missing Renslayer and Miss Minutes — should they remember Loki — will be crucial in the next phase of the MCU.

Created by Michael Waldron and directed by Kate Herron, Loki stars Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Owen Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15, Tara Strong as Miss Minutes, Eugene Cordero as Casey, Sasha Lane as Hunter C-20 and Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie, with Richard E. Grant and Jack Veal. Season 1 is currently streaming on Disney+.
