Loki is the only live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe series to be confirmed for a second season, with Wilson saying filming will begin soon.
Loki actor Owen Wilson confirms that the series’ second season is about to start filming soon.
While answering the “Web’s Most Searched Questions” for WIRED, Wilson came across the inquiry, “Is Owen Wilson coming back to Loki?” Not only did Wilson confirm the return of his character, Mobius, but he also said, “I think we’re gonna start filming that pretty soon,” before detailing how he enjoyed working on the series and with star Tom Hiddleston. As of right now, Loki Season 2 does not have a release date, but the revelation indicates that the series will be returning sooner, rather than later.
Last summer’s Loki shook Marvel fans and carved a path forward for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe — or rather, multiple paths forward. Not only did the series set up the MCU’s next major villain on par with Thanos, but showed the re-creation of the Multiverse. This resulted from the Loki variant Sylvie killing He Who Remains, a variant of comic book big bad Kang the Conqueror.
So far, Loki is the only released, live-action Disney+ series for Marvel to be confirmed for a second season, being that the animated What If…? will also be getting a Season 2. WandaVision has been declared a limited series while The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will pick up in a fourth Captain America film starring actor Anthony Mackie. As for the recently released Hawkeye and upcoming series like Moon Knight, no announcements about future seasons have been made yet.
Wilson played Mobius, a member of the Time Variance Authority (TVA) in the series. In Loki, he brought a variant of the God of Mischief into the TVA to track down Sylvie and put an end to her plan, though Loki ultimately teamed up with and fell for Sylvie in the end. After He Who Remains’ death, Loki returned to a TVA he did not recognize, one that was seemingly led by Kang the Conqueror.
Kang is set to be the main villain of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which is due for a July 2023 release. Whether the stars of Loki are set to make any appearance in the film remains to be seen, aside from actor Jonathan Majors portraying the real Kang. The time traveling conqueror will not be the only villain in the film though, being that actor Bill Murray has teased that he will be playing a “bad guy” as well. Being that Loki is set to start filming soon though, it is possible that the series’ second season might release around the Ant-Man and the Wasp sequel, though any connections between the two remains to be seen.
While Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania releases on July 28, 2023, Loki Season 2 does not currently have an official release date.
