Ever since 2005, LEGO Star Wars has brought a brick-ton of fun to the galaxy far, far away. Encompassing both the original series and the prequels, the games now look to adapt the main story as a whole. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga retells all nine of the episodic movies, showing a toyetic Tatooine and beyond throughout three trilogies.
Along with more movies to play through, the game also offers tons of other new features and changes from the previous games. The tales will be retold in brick form across all modern consoles, making it easier than ever to experience the entirety of the Skywalker family legacy. Here’s what fans of LEGO, Star Wars and burgeoning Jedi knights should know as the series approaches releases.
What is The Plot of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
As its name would suggest, The Skywalker Saga adapts an even more family-friendly, LEGO version of Star Wars Episodes 1-9. This means that ardent fans of the franchise can look forward to seeing the familiar storyline reimagined in brick form, with even the most recognizable scenes being redone with gags, Easter Eggs and other humorous bits.
Like LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the game will also feature full-on voice acting for the cutscenes, including Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian. There’s also an unlockable Mumble Mode, which makes the game more like the classic entries in the LEGO titles. In this mode, the characters will simply mumble and grunt, as in the older entries in the LEGO series.

The game’s most recent trailer showed off a bevy of footage and details, namely one of the biggest new features. In LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, players can choose to start and play through any of the episodes whenever they want. Whether they choose to begins at the story’s beginning with The Phantom Menace or would rather start things off with The Empire Strikes Back, the choice is up to them.
With five levels per episode, the game has a grand total of 45 levels, though this number per episode is lower than in previous games. Like in LEGO The Force Awakens, players can travel throughout the galaxy to different planets instead of accessing things through the main world. Random encounters can also occur while traveling in space, such as when a fleet of TIE Fighters attack the player’s ship.
News, Updates & Release Date
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was announced in 2019, with a second trailer being shown later that year to coincide with the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Given that the movie still hadn’t come out or had much of its plot revealed beforehand, all of the other “episodes” in the game were worked on first. Strangely enough, the game had actually begun development in 2017, meaning that it’s an experience five years in the making.
Despite this now even lengthier development period, the game’s release date was constantly up in the air. Originally slated for a late 2020 release (about a year after The Rise of Skywalker came out in theaters), it was pushed further and further back with continuously tentative 2021 release schedules. None of these came true, of course, but as it stands, the game is intended to finally come out on April 5th, 2022.
It will be available for Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, as well as Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. Available in both Standard and Deluxe Editions, the latter will contain DLC for characters outside of the main Skywalker Saga. The retail versions of Deluxe Edition will be packaged with an exclusive Blue Milk Luke Skywalker LEGO figure, as well as different box art and a Steelbook case if purchased at Best Buy. This all comes together to deliver the definitive LEGO Star Wars experience to fans.
