Recruit XCOM heroes from the past and present in XCOM Legends, a new entry in the turn-based strategy series that’s exclusive to mobile.
XCOM Legends is a new interpretation of the hit strategy series and it’s available on mobile right now.
As detailed by the game’s official listing on the Google Play store, XCOM Legends is currently in Early Access but promises fans the tactical turn-based RPG gameplay expected of the franchise. Like previous XCOM titles, Legends has players taking command of one of Earth’s last resistance groups while tyrannical alien invaders known as ADVENT attempt to exterminate the last of the planet’s resistance.
The game is set twenty years after Earth’s surrender, tasking players with liberating the planet by assembling the greatest warriors throughout XCOM history after the aliens unleash an “untold, ancient evil” to claim Earth once and for all.
XCOM Legends will feature a campaign mode in which players will battle waves of enemies, unlock competitive PvP game modes and heroes, daily challenges and unique hero-specific war stories. Combat will involve leading squads of five into “quick, turn-based battles,” forcing players to not only adapt their strategies and tactics for increasingly powerful aliens but to also manage their resources and each hero’s unique ability.
Human and alien allies can be upgraded with new skills, powers and modifications, as heroes of different species bring their own strengths and weaknesses to battle. Rewards such as rare equipable weapons and items will be obtainable through raiding enemy forces, while base-building upgrades can be obtained by researching advanced alien technology. “Powerful heroes and weapons” will also be unlockable.
The game is developed by Iridium Starfish rather than Firaxis Games, who have a successful history with the franchise. Although Firaxis has worked on XCOM games like Enemy Within, XCOM 2 and its expansion War of the Chosen, which all saw Android and iOS ports, XCOM Legends marks the first entry in the franchise geared specifically toward mobile platforms. As for why Firaxis isn’t involved, speculation prior to E3 2021 suggested the developer may be working on a turn-based action game based on Marvel property, with the rumor’s source describing it as “XCOM with Marvel heroes.”
The Early Access build of XCOM Legends is currently available to download for free on the Google Play store.
