Kate Bishop’s Hawkeye Targets a New Solo Series This Fall

[ad_1]

The upcoming miniseries Hawkeye: Kate Bishop by Marieke Nijkamp and Enid Balám sees the former Young Avener return to New York for new adventures.

Kate Bishop is set to star in a new solo Hawkeye title to coincide with her upcoming live-action debut.

Hawkeye: Kate Bishop will be a five-issue miniseries from author Marieke Nijkamp and artist Enid Balám. The series will see Kate return to New York after spending time in Los Angeles, operating as Hawkeye both on her own and as co-leader of the West Coast Avengers alongside the other Hawkeye, Clint Barton. Kate will be invited to solve a mysterious jewel heist at a resort, which will serve as the perfect confidence boost for the young hero, despite it being “almost definitely a trap.” Jahnoy Lindsay will provide covers for the series.

Nijkamp is a New York Times Bestselling author, known for YA novels such as This Is Where It Ends and Before I Let Go. “Because Kate’s story is in flux right now, it’s the perfect time to jump on board for the adventure,” Nijkamp told Bustle. “You don’t need to know where she was to enjoy the journey!” Balám, who previously worked on the Reptil miniseries for Marvel and the graphic novel Extraordinary by V.E. Schwab, included some concept art from Hawkeye: Kate Bishop, which promises Kate’s canine companion Lucky the Pizza Dog will be along for the ride.

Kate Bishop is a former member of the Young Avengers, a group of teenagers inspired by Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to suit up and fight crime. She went on to become a starring player in the 2012 Hawkeye series from Matt Fraction and David Aja, which established her and Clint Barton as having a competitive, mentor/student relationship. The series helped make Kate a favorite among fans, enough that she headlined her own ongoing series in 2017. The series saw the young archer set out to solve mysteries in Los Angeles before co-leading the latest incarnation of the West Coast Avengers in 2018.

The character is set to make the jump into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the Disney+ series Hawkeye, where she will be played by Hailee Steinfeld opposite Jeremy Renner, who reprises his role as Clint Barton. Renner spoke on Kate Bishop’s backstory in the show, stating, “[Kate is] a 22-year-old kid and she’s a big Hawkeye fan. She has a wonderfully annoying and equally charming manner about her, because she’s such a fangirl of Hawkeye. The relationship grows from that, but the biggest problem for Clint is Kate Bishop and the onslaught of problems that she brings into his life.”

The first issue of Hawkeye: Kate Bishop will release in November from Marvel Comics.
