Fans of Kaguya-Sama: Love is War may well recognize the main characters’ voices from other notable anime shows.
Kaguya-Sama: Love is War is a popular romantic comedy seinen series based on Aka Akasaka’s long-running manga series of the same name, and it depicts the stubborn battle of wits between Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane, two members of a private high school’s student council. The series has two short seasons under its belt and a third slated for release in the Spring 2022 anime season.
There’s a lot to like about Kaguya-Sama: Love is War, from the characters’ clever antics and silly schemes to the high production values and impeccable humor mixed with heartfelt moments, and the voice actors really sell it every time. Astute viewers may recognize these voices from other popular anime roles, too.
Aoi Koga – Demon Slayer & Komi Can’t Communicate
Kaguya Shinomiya is a bit of a tsundere, a lofty rich girl who quickly gets flustered and defensive when her romantic feelings for Miyuki Shirogane are put in the spotlight. She is the academy’s second-best student and supports Miyuki Shirogane as the student council’s vice president, but she’s also a crafty and intense girl who’s always up to something. Her voice actress, Aoi Koga, also portrays Shoko Komi in the new Netflix anime Komi Can’t Communicate, voicing the character’s many whimpers, squeaks and other nonverbal dialogue. Koga is also currently voicing Yamamoto in Blue Period and Rokuta Kamado in Demon Slayer.
Makoto Furukawa – Fire Force & That Time I Got Reincarnated As a Slime
Miyuki Shirogane is the student council president despite his family’s humble background, and he studies incredibly hard to maintain his perfect grades and prove his worth at this elite institution. During the story, Miyuki racks his brains to find ways to lure Kaguya into confessing her feelings first. He’s also a friend to Yu Ishigami and Chika Fujiwara — unless he’s frustrating the latter with his bad singing and dancing skills. Miyuki’s voice actor, Makoto Furukawa, also portrayed Hatsuharu Sohma in Fruits Basket, as well as voiced Ogun Montgomery in the action-packed Fire Force and the ogre swordsman Benimaru in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, a popular isekai anime.
Konomi Kohara- Bloom Into You & Domestic Girlfriend
Chika Fujiwara is a carefree and whimsical girl who plays a chaotic role in the love war, balancing out the two sides by aiding and sabotaging them equally, all without even meaning to. Chika simply makes her own rules, and she’s friendly to anyone who appreciates her and obnoxious to anyone who tries to ruin her fun. Her voice actress, Konomi Kohara, has also portrayed Oopa in To Your Eternity, Miu Ashihara in the slice-of-life drama Domestic Girlfriend and Koyomi Kano in Bloom Into You.
Ryota Suzuki – Boruto & Fena: Pirate Princess
Yu Ishigami had personal demons haunting him for many months, including drama surrounding his old friend Kyoko Otomo, and he’s a reclusive loner who thinks of video games as his only real friends. However, he does still play an active role in the student council as treasurer, and he sees Miyuki as an ally while he constantly butts heads with the no-nonsense Miki Iino. Yu and Miko together proved the worth of Kaguya-Sama‘s support cast in Season 2 with great drama and voice acting. Yu’s voice actor, Ryota Suzuki, is noted for portraying Arai in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Jiki in Children of the Whales and Yukimaru in Fena: Pirate Princess.
Yumiri Hanamori – Laid-Back Camp & Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!
Ai Hayasaka is Kaguya’s loyal maid and friend, and she is often the voice of reason in the love war, keeping Kaguya grounded whenever Kaguya gets carried away in her daydreaming. Ai once assumed a disguise to prove that she can hit on Miyuki successfully, but she might have accidentally developed some real feelings for him along the way, and she fears that this is a terrible betrayal of Kaguya’s trust. Her voice actress, Yumiri Hanamori, has also portrayed Nadeshiko Kagamihara in the series Laid-Back Camp, Doumeki in Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! and Evileye in Overlord III.
Takehito Koyasu – JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure & Attack On Titan
Miyuki’s father, simply known as Papa Shirogane, is a relatively minor character in Kaguya-Sama: Love is War, but his voice actor, Takehito Koyasu, is a big name in the industry, making the Papa character far more memorable. Koyasu is well-known for voicing Dio Brando in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, but he’s had many other voice roles too, including Demon Lord Clayman in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Zeke Yeager/Beast Titan in Attack on Titan and Gin Dojima in Food Wars!.
