(Updated with official solicit text from DC)
Writer Joshua Williamson has announced via social media a new series spinning out of the pages of DC’s currently-running Infinite Frontier. Justice League Incarnate is a 5-issue series that will star the titular team made up of heroes from across the multiverse. The title, which will be written by Williamson and his Future State: Gotham co-writer Dennis Culver, with art on the first issue by Andrei Bresson and Brandon Peterson, debuts in November. The series will sport covers by Gary Frank and Brad Anderson.
Here’s how Williamson describes the series, which he calls “the second act in the Infinite Frontier saga”:
Justice League Incarnate must race across multiple worlds to stop Darkseid from gaining control of the greatest force in the Multiverse. Each world they visit has it’s own awesome artist!
First appearing in the pages of 2015’s The Multiversity #2, the team known as Justice Incarnate is a team of heroes who protects the multiverse from cosmic-level threats. The current iteration of the team includes President Superman of Earth-23, Captain Carrot of Earth-26, Aquawoman of Earth-11, and Mary Marvel of Earth-5. Frank and Anderson’s cover also indicates that Thunderer of Earth-7 and Avery Ho, the Flash of China, will be joining the team. The Thomas Wayne Batman from the Flashpoint timeline has also been working with the team in Infinite Frontier, and the end of the most recent issue of that series saw the team betrayed by one of their own, Machinehead of Earth-8, who welcomed a new multiversal team of villains (presumably Injustice Incarnate) into the House of Heroes. Justice League Incarnate will also introduce a new hero from Earth-8, Dr. Multiverse (considering Earth-8 is DC’s Marvel analogue, it seems a safe bet this this new character will be a sorcerer supreme).
Williamson’s profile within the DC Universe has risen greatly since the end of his years-long run on The Flash. The writer penned the framing sequence for the Infinite Frontier #0 one-shot that kicked off the current era of DC titles, and the miniseries of the same name has expanded on that story and reintroduced a number of characters to the DC Universe. Williamson is also the writer on the ongoing Robin series with artist Gleb Melnikov, as well as the soon-to-launch Deathstroke Inc. with former Flash collaborator Howard Porter.
