Jurassic World: Dominion may not mark the series’ extinction, as a producer on the trilogy recently teased more films could be on the way.
The Jurassic World trilogy is set to conclude with the upcoming release of Dominion later this year, but a producer on the series recently teased that more films could still be on the way.
Producer Frank Marshall was recently asked about what’s in store for the franchise after Jurassic World: Dominion. Marshall assured fans that the Jurassic universe won’t be going extinct any time soon, as the producer suggested more movies are coming down the line. “I think that Dominion‘s going to wrap up this trilogy, but we’re not resting on our laurels,” Marshall said during an interview with /Film. “We’re going to sit down, and we’re going to see what the future is… We obviously want to make quality, good movies with great storytelling, great writers and directors, but we’re definitely looking to do more in the Jurassic world.”
During the interview, Marshall doubled down on previous comments he made back in 2020 about the franchise continuing after Dominion. “It’s the start of a new era,” Marshall said of Dominion during the 2020 interview. “The dinosaurs are now on the mainland amongst us, and they will be for quite some time, I hope.” When asked if he still stands by his comments two years later, Marshall replied, “Yeah, absolutely.”
The Jurassic universe has expanded considerably since the long-running franchise was rebooted with the release of Jurassic World in 2015 and its 2018 sequel, Fallen Kingdom. The franchise has experimented off the big-screen as well through the Battle at Big Rock short film in 2019 and the Netflix animated series Camp Cretaceous, now in its fourth season. What’s more, a live-action Jurassic World spinoff series is reportedly in development at Amblin Television, with Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow and Jurassic Park director Steven Spielberg attached as producers.
While the Jurassic universe is set to expand over the coming years, that doesn’t mean the franchise has forgotten about the films in its past. Trevorrow recently discussed the significant roles Jurassic Park veterans Sam Neil, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum will be playing in Dominion. The director promised the legacy cast members “have as much screen time” as Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, the franchise’s current stars, before going on to say, “They’re not together the entire time, but we are following both of their stories equally, and you have a sense that they’re going to collide at a certain point. There’s this tension. It’s not structured necessarily in a way that we’re used to seeing our Hollywood movies structured. But it works.”
Jurassic World Dominion stampedes into theaters June 10.
