The Suicide Squad star John Cena turns up to the film’s premiere in full-costume as his DC Extended Universe character, Peacemaker.
Ahead of The Suicide Squad‘s wide release on Aug. 6, star John Cena turned up to the DC Extended Universe film’s premiere event in full-costume as his comic book character, Peacemaker.
In a video shared to his personal Twitter account, Cena is seen (no pun intended) mimicking Peacemaker’s pose from The Suicide Squad‘s official poster before turning to address the audience. “We’re here, at the premiere of The Suicide Squad, a James Gunn film,” Cena says. “I’m prepared to dive inside the mind of James Gunn and I’m dressed for the occasion as Peacemaker.”
Cena then attempts to stylishly twirl and holster his prop gun, which he ultimately does, despite struggling a bit. “They won’t give me the real one for some reason. I don’t know why,” the former WWE Champion quips. Speaking of his wrestling history, Cena was also spotted at The Suicide Squad‘s premiere reconnecting with former WWE superstar Rusev — real name Miroslav Barnyashev — who now performs for All Elite Wrestling (AEW) under the name Miro.
Created by Joe Gill and Pat Boyette, the character of Christopher Smith/Peacemaker first appeared in 1966’s Fightin’ 5 #40. Cena portrays the patriotic anti-hero in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, which serves as a reboot of director David Ayer’s 2016 DCEU film Suicide Squad. Cena is also slated to reprise the role for Peacemaker, a solo spinoff series set to premiere on HBO Max early next year.
The Suicide Squad arrives in theaters and on HBO Max on Aug. 6.
