Mayim Bialik has temporarily stepped into the role of host on Jeopardy! now that Mike Richards has vacated the job.
Mayim Bialik is performing as master of ceremonies on Jeopardy! for a spell now that Mike Richards has vacated the position.
CNN reported on Bialik’s ascension to the role in the wake of revelations concerning controversial remarks that Richards made on The Randumb Show podcast. Having already been named host of the game show’s primetime specials, the former star of Blossom was a logical choice for Sony, which produces the show, to take over as host of the weekday broadcast. Richards, though dismissed from hosting duties, was retained as executive producer.
Studio executives are reportedly interested in keeping Bialik on as the full-time star of Jeopardy!. “The studio loves Mayim but at the time of the decision for the current season, her schedule for Call Me Kat was set and she wouldn’t have been able to juggle the syndicated show and her fox sitcom,” revealed a person familiar with the matter.
Bialik made a statement after being named host of primetime specials, saying, “I couldn’t be more thrilled to join the Jeopardy! family. What started out with my 15-year-old repeating a rumor from Instagram that I should guest host the show has turned into one of the most exciting and surreal opportunities of my life!” She may not be the only name on Sony’s list to permanently fill Richards’ shoes, however, with past champion Ken Jennings reportedly vying for the honor.
Richards guest-hosted the game show in February, one of several to hold the spot following the passing of Alex Trebek.
