Jared Leto Questions Why Warner Bros. Wouldn’t #ReleaseTheAyerCut

Ever since Warner Bros approved doing the Snyder Cut of Justice League, director David Ayer has been pushing for the studio to release his cut of the 2016 Suicide Squad film. Reports say that the film went through some drastic reshoots and cuts to change the tone after the criticism received by Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. We know that there was a lot more of Jared Leto as the Joker as well as a Deadshot / Harley Quinn romantic subplot, both of which were cut or trimmed down.

But the studio has been hesitant and while the movement to release the cut has been growing in popularity, it’s not nearly to the level Zach Snyder had built up. Recently though the #ReleaseTheAyerCut movement got a boost when Variety asked Leto if Warner Bros. should make the director’s cut available to which he said:  “Absolutely! Why not? Why wouldn’t they? Why wouldn’t they? I mean, that’s what streaming’s for, right?”

After this was put online, Ayer retweeted it with the caption: “Exactly what streaming is for. If you own IP and you have a mandate to monetize it from your shareholders that’s exactly what you do.” The studio has seemed to be reluctant to do so, but a regime change is in the works as the company moves from AT&T to Discovery, so anything is possible.
