Infinite Frontier Unites Darkseid and DC’s Ultimate Villains With a Dark New Mission

[ad_1]

Infinite Frontier revealed that Darkseid’s plans for the future of the DC Universe may be complicated by a number of equally villainous forces.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Infinite Frontier #6, on sale now from DC Comics.

Darkseid has long been considered one of the most powerful forces of evil in the DC Universe. But he’s not the only one, as there are countless monstrous forces that have their own machinations and plans for the fate of all things. Now, some of the most powerful are stirring in the dark once more with a terrifying end goal.

In Infinite Frontier #6, by Joshua Williamson, Xermanico, Romulo Fajardo Jr, and Tom Napolitano, Darkseid moves into position to try and claim the ultimate dark power source in the DC Universe and reveals that he’s not the only villain coveting the power.

Darkseid’s plans have seen him using the exposed multiverse to try and rally together enough power to control Earth-Omega and weaken the bond between the different worlds. But it turns out that Darkseid’s full plans involved unlocking the full potential of Earth-Omega which is just a fraction of the full destructive power existing in the omniverse. His mission requires him to reunite with his old allies (like reborn incarnations of Kalibak, Granny Goodness, DeSaad, Steppenwolf, and Grail), as well as prepare for the coming race to find and control the Great Darkness, one of the most potent power sources in the DC Universe. However, Darkseid can also tell he isn’t the only one aware of this power, and that isn’t the only one seeking it.

What follows is a montage of Darkseid’s new rivals, who happen to be some of the most dangerous beings in the DC Universe. There’s Nekron, the living embodiment of death (who debuted in Tales of the Green Lantern Corps #2 by Mike W. Barr, Len Wein, and Joe Staton) who appeared as the primary threat of the Blackest Night crossover and is seen in front of the Black Lantern Central Power Battery. Eclipso, a frequent DC villain, who debuted in House of Secrets #61 by Bob Haney Lee Elias, who was reinvented over the years into a powerful mystical force is also a contender.

There are also two newer threats within the montage, both of whom are among the more powerful and mysterious forces in modern DC stories. The Upside Down Man (first appearing in Justice League Dark #1 by James Tynion IV and Álvaro Martínez Bueno) is a primordial mystical force, a malicious magical being that was created as a natural opposite of Hecate. Meanwhile, the Empty Hand (introduced during The Multiversity by Grant Morrison, Marcus To, and Ivan Reis) is a malevolent force that created the demonic Gentry and has been suggested to have been a key player in weakening, destroying, and even consuming the multiverse that came before the current one.

Any single one of these villains would be a major threat to deal with, each of them capable of bringing down entire realities all on their own. But with each of them seemingly set up to be in competition with one another, the pending conflict could threaten to eradicate all things in existence. While groups like Justice Incarnate may be a beacon of hope to the DC Universe, there are still very serious forces moving in the dark against one another, and that alone is cause for alarm on every Earth in the multiverse.
