IMPOSTER SYNDROME, DEMON BITCH, and 3 more campaigns we love

Welcome to this week’s installment of The Beat’s Comics Crowdfunding Round-Up! This week we’ve got five high-quality projects from well-known creators and publishers, from The Rocketeer-inspired comic puzzle to comics designed to make us laugh at ourselves. Let’s get right into it!


Rocketeer Comic Puzzle

Creators: The Rocketeer Trust
Goal: $10,000
End Date: April 26, 2022
Goodies: 500-piece puzzle, “Bullseye” art print and t-shirt, and “Cliff’s New York Adventures” art print 

In celebration of The Rocketeer’s 40th Anniversary and first museum exhibit, showing at the Comic-Con Museum in San Diego from March 9th through July 31st, the estate of Dave Stevens, creator of The Rocketeer, in honoring his legacy and teaming up with Zoop to present the first Rocketeer puzzle ever offered in the U.S.! The puzzle features a picture of Stevens’ iconic “Bullseye” art that was featured on the back cover of the Rocketeer’s first comic book issue in 1982.

David F. Walker’s Imposter Syndrome

Creators: David F. Walker (writer), DJ Parnell (artist), Mx. Struble (colorist)
Goal: $5,500
End Date: May 5, 2022
Goodies: Digital or paperback copy, signed copy, other Walker books

If you attended WonderCon (4/1 through 4/3), Zoop held a special promotion for supporting this comic: while at WonderCon, if you showed proof of backing this campaign at Artist Alley table B-01 you got a FREE COMIC written and signed by David F. Walker! For those of us with golden tickets, knowing this project comes from the incredibly talented mind of the Eisner Award-winning co-creator of Bitter Root and Naomi should be enough to pique our interest the anthology. Imposter Syndrome is described as a 100-page collection of six short comics, one prose short story about zombies, and some other random nonsense that must be seen to be believed.

Demon Bitch: YOU ALL SUCK!

Creators: Christie Shinn (creator) and Connie Huang (DemonGotchi pin designer)
Goal: $7,000
End Date: May 6, 2022
Goodies: Softcover and possibly a hardcover version of book, “Demon Bitch: Disgusting Dump$ter Fire!” game, DemonGotchi pin, exclusive art, Mary ‘Zorilita’ Bellamy‘s “Animudemon” as a fucking 3″ charm, a date with Demon Bitch, and additional stretch goals 

COVID-19 made us all stupid! Now we get to laugh at ourselves! This means you.

I discovered Demon Bitch this morning, so I may have it all wrong. However, the latest installment sounds like me–not my Tom Holland Alda side, but my Scarlet Bitch side–after I run into Trumpkins at the local conservative coffee shop. If you are a COVID-19 denier, this crowdfunding campaign is not for you! STAY AWAY!! IT WILL TRIGGER YOU!! In Shinn’s words, “Think about [Demon Bitch in Triggered] as fucking therapy for the last two years.”

Moxie – Volume 1

Creators: Caitlin Blaine
Goal: $4,500
End Date: April 7, 2022
Goodies: Full-color printed edition of the webcomic, additional concept art and sketches, pin, signed print, personalized bookplate, get drawn into future Moxie crowd scene

A 140+ page fantasy adventure comic that follows Mari as she searches for her missing brother.

Moxie started as a webcomic. Its a fantasy adventure about a noblewomen who leaves home to find her brother. She teams up with a ragtag group of friends to learn about how to use a lost arcane magic. The first volume of the print edition will include a prologue and the first four chapters of the webcomic and will run approximately 144 pages.

“Suihira: The City of Water” Book 1 Graphic Novel

Creators: Riana Dorsey
Goal: $24,500
End Date: April 29, 2022
Goodies: hardcover book, Suzi pin, original character drawings and paintings

The print of the fantasy adventure webcomic where a zealous princess goes on a journey to find the city of a dishonored goddess.

Dorsey was nominated for an Eisner Award for work on Cloud Raiders. Now, after seven years in the making, the award-winning webseries, Suihira: The City of Water, Book I, has concluded its first story arc and kicked off its crowdfunding campaign to bring the characters to print in a hardcover book. Growing up in SoCal surrounded by Wayland Whales, I can confidently say that Dorsey’s Orcas have way more character.
