For many, power leads to arrogance. When blessed with incredible strength and skill, it’s easy to gain a sense of superiority — believing those without power are somehow worth less. Hunter X Hunter is littered with powerful characters who prescribe to this philosophy. Nen grants the user remarkable strength, and they often feel like they can take on the world.
But not all Nen wielders side with this elitist group. Some successfully avoid arrogance, remaining aware of their own limitations and appreciating the value of those who don’t possess this unique power. Although uncommon, there are some humble characters within the world of Hunters.
10 Zeno’s Confidence Never Turns Into Arrogance
Zeno has managed to live a long life despite the dangerous nature of his job. As an assassin, Zeno is tasked with taking down powerful individuals — and he has never failed a job. It helps that Zeno’s power is practically unrivaled; his mastery over his Nen category compliments his impressive intellect and substantial battle experience.
The Zoldyck remains humble despite his success, knowing that underestimating a job could lead to his downfall. He’s humble enough to praise Chrollo and recognizes Netero as his superior.
9 Chrollo Is Careful Despite His Overwhelming Strength
Chrollo Lucilfer is the leader of the notorious Phantom Troupe and a character whose power is rivaled by only a select few. He can steal the abilities of others, creating a balanced arsenal of powers suitable for almost any situation. Despite this, Chrollo remains aware of his and his group’s limitations — never biting off more than he can chew.
When fighting Zeno and Silva, Chrollo swiftly realizes he can’t steal their abilities and turns his attention to killing them. He also acknowledges Uvogin’s vulnerability when facing a Conjuror or Manipulator and considers the possibility that his soldier may have been defeated.
8 Silva Zoldyck Acknowledges The Strength Of Chrollo And The Troupe
Silva Zoldyck is a remarkably powerful assassin and head of the infamous Zoldyck family. He is one of the strongest characters in the series, easily defeating Chimera Ant Cheetu and capable of battling Chrollo alongside his father, Zeno. Silva had every opportunity to become arrogant with his overwhelming power and world-renowned status.
However, he’s never boastful, and he never underestimates his opponent. In his line of work, arrogance can prove fatal, and Silva acknowledges the strength of Chrollo. He was also comfortable referring to the Spider he previously killed as a worthy opponent.
7 Biscuit Emphasised The Importance of Nen Basics
Biscuit Krueger was Gon and Killua’s second Nen teacher and one of the strongest characters in the series. Just like their first teacher, Wing, Biscuit immediately recognized the pair’s immense talent and did her best to shape them into the rare jewels they could become. However, she refused to indulge the boy’s ability to master almost anything, instead focusing on improving their Nen stamina.
She would have them maintain their Ten for as long as possible and never considered moving onto the more flashy stuff like Hatsu. Biscuit preached humbleness, stressing the importance of mastering the very basics before taking on more difficult tasks.
6 Morel Respects The Unpredictability Of Nen
Morel is a powerful Hunter recruited by Netero to exterminate the Chimera Ants. He initially appears confident — almost arrogant — with a loud manner and unmoving opinions. He underestimates the skill of Killua and Gon, believing they have little chance of joining the extermination team.
But as the story progresses, Morel shows a more humble side, possibly brought on by witnessing the power of the Royal Guard. What drives Morel’s respectful attitude is his appreciation for the unpredictable nature of Nen. He understands that simply possessing more aura is not enough to guarantee victory. Nen can be wielded in countless ways, leading Morel to respect everyone who stands before him.
5 Colt Maintained A Noble Personality
Some Chimera Ants maintained the personality of the individual the Queen consumed. Colt was partly a product of a young and noble boy who died attempting to protect his sister from the Ants. Like the boy, Colt is fiercely loyal, going further than any Ant to ensure the Queen survives and thrives. When she is torn apart by the King’s birth, Colt risks his life by approaching the humans for their help.
He is a humble Ant, refusing to be consumed by the ego-trip so many Ants experienced after learning Nen. In the end, Colt committed himself to the side of humanity.
4 Wing’s Teaching Philosophy Is One Of Humility And Steadiness
Wing is a humble and reserved Nen master who first teaches Gon and Killua about the existence of Hunter X Hunter’s power system. He immediately recognizes the boys’ potential and attempts to balance their supreme talent with an appreciation for the dangers of learning Nen.
Wing also acknowledges his responsibility to ensure Gon and Killua do not turn into Nen-wielding monsters and stresses the importance of remaining humble and respecting your opponents. Despite his own impressive skill, Wing never shows off or boasts, demonstrating a profound appreciation for those weaker than himself.
3 Kite Possessed An Unparalleled Respect For Life
Kite’s personality was stoic and direct — he had little time for small talk. Additionally, Kite was guided by a profound respect for life, understanding that every living creature had a valuable role within the world’s delicate ecosystem. When Gon wandered into the den of a Mother foxbear, Kite was forced to kill it as Gon would otherwise have been killed by the Foxbear protecting her cubs.
Kite then punched Gon for not respecting nature and for forcing Kite into taking a life. He also doesn’t take pleasure in killing the evolved Chimera Ants, despite their hunting of humans. Kite is extraordinarily powerful, but he refuses to wield his power irresponsibly. He remains humble, regardless of the situation.
2 Gon Approached Every Situation With Curiosity And Respect
Despite Gon’s own remarkable progression, the young protagonist has maintained the innocence and curiosity that defined him early on in the series. His talent is overwhelming, estimated by Wing to be found in one of every ten million people. Gon pretty much accomplishes everything he puts his mind to — and somehow remains humble in the process.
Gon’s humbleness can be partly attributed to his training alongside Killua — an individual with an equal or greater talent that usually remains one step ahead of Gon. But Gon’s humble attitude is consistent with his true selfless and respectful character.
1 Komugi Was Unaware Of Her Own Extraordinary Talent
Komugi was a blind World Gungi champion tasked with keeping Meruem entertained while the Royal Guard carried out their dastardly plan. Meruem possessed an unrivaled intellect that constantly evolved. It allowed him to defeat the Go and Shogi champions despite being a novice at both games.
However, Komugi’s talent for Gungi outmatched Meruem’s ability to evolve, and the King was unable to defeat her. This was also due to Komugi experiencing her own evolution, and she improved as quickly as her opponent did. But Komugi had no self-confidence due to being ostracized because of her disability. The prodigy never truly appreciated her own talent.
