Brewster and The Roost are available in Animal Crossing: New Horizons at last. Here’s how to find the pigeon barista and unlock his café.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons received its free Version 2.0 update, meaning players can finally unlock the game’s famed café and social hub, The Roost. Hosted and run by the pigeon barista Brewster, a beloved special NPC and staple of the Animal Crossing franchise, the arrival of this location is exciting fans. At The Roost, players will be able to enjoy invigorating cups of coffee, socialize with villagers and special NPCs using amiibo, invite friends to hang out and more.
However, The Roost is not automatically added to the island after downloading the update. Players will first have to find Brewster and add a new wing to the Museum. Here’s how to finally gain access to this long-requested location and character.
Everything Players Need to Do Before They Can Unlock The Roost
To unlock The Roost and its accompanying features, players will have to complete several tasks. Most seasoned players will have already finished these, but those who are just starting out will first need to have the Museum fully set up and operational. This requires completing basic setup tasks with Tom Nook, talking to Blathers, picking a location and donating 15 unique critters to upgrade the building.
Next, you’ll need to unlock the art gallery wing, which requires players to donate at least 60 items to the Museum. Then, the art seller, Redd, will appear on the island. After Redd has been found and the first piece of art has been purchased and donated, be sure to contribute at least one of each type of item (bug, fish, fossil and art) to the Museum.
Finally, the island must have at least a three-star rating. This can be easily achieved in the course of normal gameplay by placing furniture outside, building bridges and inclines and planting flora. Don’t forget to clean up weeds to keep the island sparkling clean. Upgrading the Nook Store and recruiting 10 villagers will also contribute to rating.
Meeting Brewster And Inviting Him To Stay
Once these tasks are complete, players will be able to speak to Blathers about opening The Roost. Players who have only just completed the final task will need to briefly leave the Museum, but returning immediately after will unlock new dialogue in which Blathers mentions finding Brewster and asking him to open a café to attract more visitors to the Museum.
Next, head to the pier and set sail to another island with Kapp’n. Those who have already sailed for the day will have to wait, as Kapp’n will only take players on one mystery tour per day. Otherwise, those who choose to time travel can simply jump ahead to the next day. Be prepared to pay the 1,000 Nook Miles fee for the trip.
When the boat docks, Brewster will be waiting on the island, though it may take a bit of wandering to find him. Talk to him and pass on Blathers’ message. There are no wrong options in this dialogue, so players can feel free to choose any of the responses. Brewster will hand over a gyroid fragment, and then it’s time to head back to the main island. For those interested in collecting gyroids, be sure to search the mystery island for another free gyroid fragment before leaving.
Opening The Roost
Back at the main island, talk to Blathers once more to begin the next part of the process. He will inform the player that the Museum will be closed the next day for renovations. This means you won’t be able to explore the exhibits, have fossils evaluated or make any donations for a day.
After that, all that’s left to do is wait. Once again, time travelers may jump ahead if they wish to complete the process sooner. If not, simply play as normal until the next day, when Isabelle will announce the opening of the new café. As with other new buildings and projects, players can take part in an opening ceremony to celebrate The Roost’s arrival, but it’s not required. Regardless, players and their visitors will be able to enjoy a nice cup of joe served by Brewster himself.
