Gold is a valuable commodity for Red Dead Online players, knowing where and how to get it is just as important as what you spend it on.
Red Dead Online is absolutely brimming with quest content, cosmetics and equipment in its core experience (as well as glitches), but there’s even more available via purchase. Though players can acquire many items with RDO$ (the in-game cash system), a closer look will reveal some transactions that can only be paid in Gold. Whether it’s the start-up fee for a moonshiner business or the cost of some dapper new shoes, Gold gets you places in Red Dead Online. So naturally, players will want to line their pockets with the currency, but first, they’ll need to know how to get it reliably.
Gold is both a universal and premium currency in Red Dead Online. It can be used on nearly any purchase in the game, save a few specific cases like Blood Money Opportunities, and it’s often the key to unlocking new Specialist Role content like Collector or Naturalist. Players can buy Gold using in-game microtransactions, but they shouldn’t waste their money on it. With the right know-how and some effort, players can receive all the Gold they’d ever need. Here are the best ways to earn Gold fast in Red Dead Online — and everything you’ll need to make it work.
Daily Challenges Are A Long-term Gold Investment
Red Dead Online offers a set of Daily Challenges that, when completed, reward players with a small amount of RDO$ and Gold. Though this payout is meager compared to other potential pursuits, rewards get exponentially better the longer a daily streak is kept. To keep their streak going, all players need to do is complete one Daily Challenge each day, to a maximum of 28 days. At the start, each completed Daily Challenge rewards 0.1 Gold.
There are seven Daily General Challenges available and up to nine more, depending on which (if any) Specialist Roles a player’s purchased. On top of this, players receive 0.3 for completing all Daily General Challenges and another 0.3 for completing nine Daily Role-specific Challenges. That means, before any streak, players can earn a maximum of 2.2 Gold per day if they complete their Challenges. Without any Specialist Roles unlocked, Daily General Challenges still provide one whole Gold.
After a week of completing at least one Daily Challenge, players will earn a 1.5x multiplier, 2x at two weeks and a whopping 2.5x after three uninterrupted weeks. This multiplier applies to the bonus earned after completing all General or nine Role-specific Challenges too. That means if they can keep their streak going long enough, players stand to make a potential 5.5 Gold per day just by doing their Daily Challenges. For players without Daily Role-specific Challenges available, a respectable 2.5 Gold is still on the menu.
Bounty Hunters Make The Most Gold
The old adage is true in Red Dead Online: you have to spend money to make money. While many tasks may reward players with a bit of Gold, none are as generous as the profits collected by Bounty Hunters. Bounty Hunters can pick up Bounties at any Bounty Board they come across. All players have to do is choose a Bounty and get to work, taking the target alive for the best rewards. Another valuable tidbit of information is that many Missions, Bounties included, pay out more the longer a player takes. So it’s in your best interest to run out the clock for the highest payout — just don’t accidentally fail the Mission.
Bounty Hunter is a Specialist Role that players will have to purchase before they’re able to partake in anything the pursuit has to offer. Purchasing a Bounty Hunter License costs 15 Gold, and it takes another 15 for a Prestigious Bounty Hunter License that allows players to undertake even more lucrative opportunities. It’s a steep fee for players who’re just starting, but Bounty Hunter pays for itself after just a short amount of time. Bounties are relatively easy and don’t take much time to complete; they’re the perfect Gold farming Specialist Role.
Competitive Multiplayer Plus Promotions Equals Gold
Red Dead Online‘s competitive multiplayer modes are another great way to earn some Gold in a moderately quick time, but things go into overdrive when there’s a coinciding promotion underway. A little time spent investigating the Newswire site will reveal which game modes Rockstar’s currently promoting, and it goes a long way; as rewards like Gold and RDO$ are often tripled. Some matchmaking in Deathmatch or Race playlists can yield impressive results in a relatively insignificant amount of time, but naturally, winning matches earns the juiciest rewards.
Even if players cannot claim victory every match, they’ll still get some compensation for participating. While it may not be as profitable as the winner’s pot, at a 3x multiplier, it’s nothing to scoff at. Multiplayer matches, especially those that Rockstar is promoting, are the perfect thing to do while grinding for that Bounty Hunter License, after completing a day’s worth of Challenges or spending some time hunting for KKK members.
