Grant Morrison confirms that their and Mikel Janín’s Superman and the Authority directly impacts the main DC Universe’s continuity.
While Grant Morrison and Mikel Janín’s upcoming miniseries Superman and the Authority, brings an older Man of Steel to the world of the Authority, Morrison confirms the story will impact DC Universe continuity.
Launching this July and slated to run for four issues, the miniseries has a hardened Man of Tomorrow form his own version of the Authority as he seeks to change up his mission of ushering humanity as its defender. In an exclusive interview with CBR, Morrison teases that the story will tie into both Phillip Kennedy Johnson’s continuing Action Comics run and Tom Taylor and John Timms’ upcoming title Superman: Son of Kal-El.
“It started out as one thing, but we integrated it and I spoke with Phillip Kennedy Johnson, who’s doing the Superman stuff, and I really like that guy, he’s very smart and he has got big ideas for Superman,” Morrison told CBR. “What I did was kind of retrofit it all in so it absolutely ties in, it’s kind of important. If you don’t read this, you’ll probably die! [laughs] It’s very much tying in with what happens next with Superman and with Superman’s son Jon Kent.”
Infinite Frontier has quietly positioned Superman to be replaced by his teenage son Jon Kent, as foreshadowed during Future State, placing Clark Kent off-world. And with Superman and the Authority featuring an older Superman on an entirely different world, it will be interesting to see the ties between the stories form.
Written by Grant Morrison and illustrated by Mikel Janín, Superman and the Authority #1 goes on sale July 20 from DC Comics.
