Most fans are painfully aware of how strong and deadly Sukuna is, but many still have questions regarding his past and his sinister plans for the future. As Sukuna’s desires are revealed throughout the series, more and more of his cunning schemes seem to play a part in his meticulously crafted plan to gain ultimate power and control. There are many unanswered questions regarding his motives and intentions, but it is known that his success will inevitably lead to chaos, destruction, and death.
10 How Old Is Ryomen Sukuna?
Recognized as the undisputed King of Curses, Ryomen Sukuna is an extremely malevolent and omnipotent cursed spirit. Not much is known about Sukuna’s past, but it is clear that his very old, wise, and dangerous.
He has struck fear in the hearts of jujutsu sorcerers and cursed spirits alike since the Golden Age of Jujutsu, which occurred roughly 1,000 years ago. Prior to his death during the height of the Golden Age, Sukuna lived as a powerful, unbeatable sorcerer, making him over 1,000 years old.

8 How Did Sukuna Become A Curse?
Ever since his emergence during the Heian Era, better known as the Golden Age of Jujutsu, Sukuna has reigned as the deadliest, most powerful cursed spirit of them all. Before becoming the King of Curses, Sukuna was an uncontrollable human sorcerer who posed a threat to humanity and was defeated and killed by his fellow jujutsu sorcerers over 1,000 years ago.
Even after his death, his body was too strong to be fully destroyed. His remaining 20 fingers were classified as cursed objects and encased in grave wax to seal his curse.
7 Why Didn’t Sukuna Kill Mahito?
Sukuna’s disregard for the lives of others has been proven throughout the series time and time again. Whether it’s his momentary amusement at the expense of others or an effort of self-preservation, Sukuna makes choices that only work to please himself and further his agenda.
During his fight against Yuji, Mahito’s use of Domain Expansion caused him to inadvertently touch Sukuna’s soul. Although Sukuna retaliated with a nearly fatal blow to Mahito, he held back from killing him simply because he couldn’t care less if Mahito lived or died. Furthermore, Sukuna took pleasure in Yuji’s despair, and killing Mahito would only benefit Yuji. That was the last thing Sukuna wanted to do.
6 What Does Sukuna’s True Form Look Like?
With Yuji’s body as a vessel, Sukuna’s physical appearance resembles a slightly altered version of Yuji. When in control of Yuji’s body, his face and body are covered with tattoos, his fingernails sharpen to a point, and a second set of eyes emerge.
In his original form, Sukuna appears as a fiery demon with two faces and four arms. This explains why 20 cursed fingers were remaining after his death instead of 10. Sukuna also wears a loose-fitting kimono with extra space in the armholes for the two additional limbs he no longer has, as seen when he’s sitting upon the throne in his domain.
5 What Deal Did Sukuna Make With Yuji?
Commonly referred to as a Binding Vow, the agreement established between Yuji and Sukuna was a conditional pact made with jujutsu. Binding Vows are used in the world of jujutsu sorcery to gain powers for one’s self or achieve a goal by making a deal with someone else.
In Sukuna’s case, he promised Yuji’s revival if he could take full control over Yuji’s body for one minute upon uttering a certain word. Like any other Binding Vow, the deal had necessary restrictions. Sukuna agreed to not kill anyone when in control, and Yuji would come back to life with no memory of their deal. Yuji initially refused, but he was forced into the vow after failing to defeat Sukuna.
4 Why Didn’t Sukuna Heal Junpei?
While there isn’t an official answer to this question, fans have pieced together facts regarding Sukuna’s Reverse Cursed Technique and the assumptions Mahito makes to carry out his plan during the Vs. Mahito Arc. They came to two possible conclusions. Fans speculate that Sukuna’s refusal to heal Junpei is due to his inability to do so or his lack of motivation to do so.
Sukuna has proven his ability to heal others, but it is unclear if he has the ability to reverse Mahito’s Idle Transformation. Conversely, many believed Sukuna had to power to save Junpei and refused simply because he already made a pact with Yuji that satisfied his selfish desire, meaning he had nothing to gain from Junpei’s revival.
3 Can Sukuna Defeat Satoru Gojo?
As one of the most powerful jujutsu sorcerers, Satoru Gojo seems to be the only one who has a chance at rivaling Sukuna and surviving to tell the tale. Yuji has yet to consume even half of Sukuna’s cursed fingers, so Sukuna only has a small percentage of his true strength and ability.
In his current state, Sukuna practically matches Gojo in strength and would have a difficult time taking the sorcerer down. However, as Yuji consumes more of the remaining cursed objects, Sukuna will eventually become strong enough to defeat Gojo. Unless Gojo can find a way to cast his Infinite Void and overpower Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine, he might never be able to stop Sukuna.
2 Who Is Ryomen Sukuna Based On?
Based on the same-named demonic figure who terrorized the Gifu Prefecture, formerly known as the Hida Providence, Ryomen Sukuna shares many qualities with the ancient Japanese mythological creature. The creature was described as a two-headed demon with four arms and four legs.
Eventually, his tyranny came to an end when Military Commander Takefurukuma no Mikoto expelled him from Hida. Statues depicting the two-headed beast can be seen today at various temples and shrines throughout Gifu.

One of Sukuna’s most defining qualities, aside from his bizarre physical appearance and his heartless nature, is the way speaks with such confidence and authority. Sukuna is voiced by the talented Japanese voice actor, Junichi Suwabe, who gives the King of Curses a certain tone that is both intimidating and strangely appealing.
Sukuna fans were quick to recognize the similarities between his voice and many other popular anime characters.
