How Did Spider-Man and Deadpool Have an Evil Child Together?

[ad_1]

Spider-Man and Deadpool were one of the most unlikely pairings in Marvel Comics, and their offspring was even more bizarre and unexpected.

As one of Marvel’s most beloved and well-known heroes, Spider-Man has taken part in some of the most astounding superhero team-ups of all time. He has also spent time in an unlikely partnership with the mercenary Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool. Not only have these two overcome everything from raging Greek gods to iconic villains, they’ve even taken on their own lethal offspring who arguably should have never been born.

2016’s Spider-Man/Deadpool #8 (by Joe Kelly and Ed McGuinness) found the pair in the midst of two particularly unnerving situations. While Peter Parker was grappling with someone having set out to destroy his soul, Wade Wilson was struggling with the idea of moving away from his violent tendencies. Worse still, their shared enemy Jack Hammer, aka Patient Zero, had been making the heroes’ lives even more difficult with the introduction of his homegrown mutant henchmen. When the villain’s experiments proved to be ineffective in taking Spider-Man and Deadpool down, Patient Zero moved on to a grander scheme with the help of an unnamed woman desperate to become a hero in her own right. Using a combination of genetic samples stolen from the heroes, Patient Zero transformed his latest test subject into the six armed assassin he dubbed Susan Mary, who Spider-Man and Deadpool would come to know better as Itsy Bitsy.

No sooner had Patient Zero unleashed Itsy Bitsy on the city than it became apparent that she had different plans in mind than those of her creator. Rather than wanting to kill the heroes,, Itsy Bitsy instead intended to become one of them, albeit with an even greater penchant for violence than Wilson. Considering Spider-Man and Deadpool to be her parents, Itsy Bitsy introduced herself by slaughtering nearly every member of the Hateful Hexad right in front of them. Once it became clear that her “daddies” weren’t going to cooperate in her gruesome campaign, Itsy Bitsy struck out on her own, making a name for herself as the city’s latest serial killer. This made her the heroes’ most immediate concern, but it was the fact that all of her killings were being carried out in their names that pushed Peter Parker completely over the edge.

Just a few short issues after Itsy Bitsy’s first appearance, Spider-Man put all of his resources from Parker Industries into developing a suit capable of taking the new villain down. In an exceptionally rare instance of Peter finding both the will and the urge to kill, he and Deadpool found themselves at odds concerning Itsy Bitsy’s life. Despite Peter’s best efforts, Deadpool was ultimately the one to bring Itsy Bitsy’s campaign of bloodshed to an end, primarily to keep Spider-Man from crossing the line. However, Itsy Bitsy was revealed to have miraculously survived although she was reduced to an insect-like state and promised that her work wasn’t done.

Itsy Bitsy hasn’t been seen again since her initial appearances and defeat. Even in the expanses of the Spider-Verse, the unusual villain is nowhere to be found. Considering how much of an impact she left on both Spider-Man and Deadpool, it is surprising that she hasn’t found her way back into either of their lives.

As one of the few villains capable of driving Peter Parker to seriously consider murder, Itsy Bitsy could very well have become the dark echo of Spider-Man that Eddie Brock and Venom once were. If this spider-villain was to step back into the spotlight, she would no doubt shine an intriguing light on the dark side of Marvel’s most iconic web-slinger.
