HBO Max’s Gossip Girl Premiere Will Air on The CW

The series premiere of HBO Max’s highly-anticipated Gossip Girl reboot is airing on The CW July 9, a day after debuting on the streaming platform.

HBO Max announced the series premiere episode of its Gossip Girl reboot will air on The CW a day after the show debuts on the streaming platform.

The first episode will have a special broadcast on The CW Network on Friday, July 9, at 8 p.m., according to a new press release. Following the broadcast, the episode will also be available to stream on The CW app and on CWTV.com for free.

The original Gossip Girl series was based on the novel series of the same name written by Cecily von Ziegesar, and centered on Upper East Siders Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) and Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) and their frenemies. It debuted in 2007 on The CW and aired for six seasons before being canceled in 2012.

The revival marks the return of original creators/showrunners Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage as executive producers, while Joshua Safran will serve as the new showrunner. Kristen Bell will also reprise her role as the voice of Gossip Girl in the HBO Max revival.

A recent trailer for the HBO Max series revealed that the 2021 version of Gossip Girl is an Instagram account that’s used to spy on a new generation of private school students in Manhattan.

The official synopsis for HBO Max’s Gossip Girl reads,

Nine years ago, the original Gossip Girl website shut down. But after a new generation of New York’s young elite takes control of private school Constance Billard, the notorious blogger remerges as the number one source into their scandalous lives.

Gossip Girl stars Jordan Alexander, Eli Brown, Thomas Doherty, Tavi Gevinson, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Zion Moreno, Whitney Peak and Savannah Lee Smith. The series premieres July 8 on HBO Max.
