The original Evil Dead trilogy (The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness) is set to hit HBO Max this September.

Groovy!

Starting on Sept. 1, all three films in the original Evil Dead trilogy — The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness — will be available to stream on HBO Max. This news comes not too long after it was confirmed that Evil Dead Rise, the franchise’s fifth feature film, would premiere exclusively on HBO Max next year.

The original three Evil Dead movies are among a slew of other titles coming to HBO Max next month. Sept. 1 will also see the addition of films like Cloverfield, The Goonies, Green Lantern and all eight Harry Potter movies. Titles hitting the platform later in the month include Mad Max: Fury Road, Mortal Kombat and Superman & Lois Season 1.

Directed by Sam Raimi and starring Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams, The Evil Dead originally released in theaters in 1981. The film was followed by Evil Dead II in 1987 and Army of Darkness in 1992. Evil Dead, a soft reboot directed by Fede Álvarez that serves as a continuation of the original film, released in 2013. (That said, Álvarez’s film does not appear to be coming to HBO Max anytime soon.) A television series titled Ash vs Evil Dead ran on Starz for three seasons from 2015 to 2018.

Executive produced by Raimi and Campbell with Lee Cronin attached to direct, Evil Dead Rise is slated for an HBO Max release in sometime in 2022. Per an official logline, the fifth Evil Dead movie opens as “a road-weary Beth (Lily Sullivan) pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland), who is raising three kids on her own in a cramped L.A apartment. The sisters’ reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building, giving rise to flesh-possessing demons, and thrusting Beth into a primal battle for survival as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.” In addition to Sutherland and Sullivan, Evil Dead Rise is slated to star Gabrielle Echols, Morgan Davies, Nell Fisher and Mia Challis.

The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness start streaming on HBO Max on Wednesday, Sept. 1. Evil Dead Rise is slated to premiere exclusively on the platform in 2022.
