Hawkeye Foreshadowed a Fight With Daredevil’s Bullseye

With Charlie Cox’s Daredevil joining the MCU, the Hawkeye TV show foreshadows a feud with Matt Murdock’s deadliest enemy, and no, it’s not Kingpin.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Hawkeye Episode 4, “Partners, Am I Right?” which aired Wednesday on Disney+.

With Charlie Cox’s Daredevil joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans have been emboldened in their predictions that Wilson Fisk/Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) will appear in Hawkeye as part of Echo’s journey. While the latest episode foreshadows Matt Murdock’s deadliest enemy arriving, it’s not Kingpin; it’s Bullseye.

Fans were heartbroken when Netflix’s Daredevil got cancelled, as Season 3 had Wilson Bethel as Benjamin Poindexter turning into Bullseye when the series ended. It was a brutal cliffhanger because many wanted to see how unhinged he’d be without needing to fake being Daredevil anymore. Now, it seems that rather than a rematch with Matt, Bullseye could find himself on a collision course with Hawkeye.

It’s hinted at when Clint and Kate spend quality time during the holiday season and try to figure out how to evade Echo’s thugs, get a mysterious watch back and replenish Clint’s arrows. They’re vulnerable and honest with each other, and Clint even admits he was Ronin after losing his family in the Blip.

As they bond, Clint shows Kate a trick while they deck out a Christmas tree. He has a button, confessing he can kill a man 20 feet away with it, which Kate finds incredulous. However, he flicks it, switching off the TV and radio in one-shot, leaving Kate speechless. He then has a target practice session with her, teaching her how to pinball and flick the button, which she aces. It’s a warm moment, making up for how they’re away from their family for the season, but while it’s emotive and fuzzy, viewers can see Bullseye being insulted by this.

We know he never misses, and while he’d want Daredevil dead at some point, knowing there are laser-sighted people like him is a good enough reason for Bullseye to enter the MCU. Bullseye did imitate Hawkeye in Dark Avengers, and with Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine having her own Black Widow in Yelena and a Captain America in US Agent/John Walker, she could pull a Norman Osborn and use Bullseye as her own agent to take Clint out if Yelena doesn’t kill the Avenger.

Both characters did clash in the comics in a bloody vendetta, as Bullseye wanted the challenge to show he was better, whilst Old Man Logan had them as rivals for bragging rights. Thus, rather than a personal vendetta against Matt, it’s organic to have Bullseye’s ego more tempted by taking out a superhero celebrity, which may even see Clint cutting loose like Ronin, as the character did fight Bullseye too, in a much bloodier affair than what this TV show entails.
