The gag reel for Marvel’s Hawkeye on Disney+ has more than laughs thanks to a few deleted scenes featuring Jack Duquense and a Kingpin teaser.
A blooper reel for the holiday-themed Hawkeye series from Disney+ and Marvel packs a couple of treats amid the laughs thanks to a few deleted scenes featuring Tony Dalton’s Jack Duquesne and some sneaky Easter eggs.
The two-minute-long reel now streaming on Disney+ has a decidedly sitcom-like feel, introducing each of the cast members to the tune of “Sweet Gingerbread Man” sung by Sammy Davis Jr. While there’s no audio apart from the song for most of it, there’s still plenty of evidence that Hawkeye was just as much fun to shoot as it was for audiences to watch.
The clip opens by introducing Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye and Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop and shows the pair laughing it up together in a car. The more villainous characters on the show also get their time in the spotlight, with Fra Fee pretending to share a kiss with Tracksuit Mafia thug Aleks Paunovic and Alaqua Cox enjoying her time as Maya Lopez/Echo. Additional footage shows Yelena Belova actor Florence Pugh and Eleanor Bishop actor Vera Farmiga sharing some laughs while filming various scenes for the series.
Along with shots of cast members breaking characters and enjoying their time on set, the gag reel includes a handful of deleted scenes centered on Jack (Dalton). One depicts the talented swordsman in what appears to be prison clothes and standing against a metal mesh fence, while another has him brandishing his signature sword in the kitchen, as seen in Episode 6 (“So This Is Christmas?”).
The reel also features an over-the-shoulder shot of Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin in his white coat sitting in a restaurant. In a coy nod to Marvel’s vaunted secrecy, even the gag reel attempts to keep D’Onofrio’s arrival on the show a surprise by redacting the actor’s name in the title card.
It’s worth pointing out that Jack and Kingpin are linked in a way, as the sword-wielding beau of Kate Bishop’s mother Eleanor (Farmiga) originally took the fall for wrongdoings that eventually lead back to Fisk. While Jack is never directly referred to as his alter ego the Swordsman in the Hawkeye series, Marvel Comics readers may recall the character’s complicated past as an on-again-off-again hero, as well as his brief stint as a member of The Avengers.
Kingpin’s appearance took more viewers by surprise, however, as his first appearance on television was in Daredevil on Netflix. While that show’s place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been largely in question since its cancellation in 2018, it was recently confirmed Charlie Cox would reprise his role as Matt Murdock/Daredevil in the MCU.
The entire first season of Hawkeye, as well as the gag reel, are streaming now on Disney+.
