Harry Potter Director Adapting House of Secrets Novels for Disney+

Filmmaker Chris Columbus is adapting his and co-author Ned Vizzini’s young adult fantasy novel, House of Secrets, into a Disney+ series.

House of Secrets, the critically-acclaimed fantasy book series, is being adapted into a televisions series for Disney+.

Chris Columbus, who directed Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, will develop the books for television. Columbus co-authored the young adult novels with the late Ned Vizzini and will be joined by his partners at 26th Street Pictures, Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe, in developing the books into a series for Disney+.

Columbus, Barnathan and Radcliffe are responsible for several beloved franchises, including Home Alone, the first two Harry Potter films, Night At The Museum and Percy Jackson & the Olympians. Ayo Davis, the executive vice president of Creative Development and Strategy at Disney Branded Television will oversee the series’ development.


“Chris, Michael and Mark tell stories that resonate with multiple audiences, across generations and genres that deliver a sense of magic and wonderment through definitional characters,” Davis said. “There is so much affinity for their acclaimed films, and we are delighted to be working with them to develop House of Secrets into a thrilling Disney+ series.”

House of Secrets follows siblings Brendan, Eleanor and Cordelia Walker, whose family moves to an old Victorian house previously owned by occult novelist, Denver Kristoff. After discovering their new neighbor has evil plans for the three siblings, the Walkers find themselves trapped in what turns out to be a magical house, traveling through the intertwined universes of Kristoff’s novels with the mission to find a secret book and save their parents.

The first book in the trilogy, House of Secrets, was published in 2013, followed by Battle of the Beasts and Clash of Worlds, which were published following Vizzini’s death in 2013.
