Halo Infinite’s Multiplayer Season 1 Will Be Reach-Themed

The first season of Halo Infinite’s online multiplayer will be titled “Heroes of Reach,” centering player characters within the Halo narrative.

Halo Infinite‘s first season of online multiplayer will harken back to the events of the 2010 prequel video game Halo: Reach and center players’ characters as new heroes in the Halo universe.

This month’s Halo Waypoint Inside Infinite blog revealed the title of the upcoming Halo multiplayer’s first season as “Heroes of Reach.” IGN shared. Halo Infinite‘s Head of Creative Joseph Staten wrote, “At the center of our plans is a goal to deeply root your Multiplayer character in the larger Halo universe and give them a vital, active role in the Halo story moving forward. How exactly we’re going to do this in the Seasons and years ahead… Well, we’re not ready to share details yet.”

Staten went on to hint at the reason for the name of the upcoming first season and the prominence of Reach as a starting point for fleshing out the Halo narrative. “I can share that we picked ‘Heroes of Reach’ as a Seasonal theme for very specific reasons: Reach has a rich history,” Staten explained. “[It’s] a key location for Spartans of old and a focal point for a new generation of Spartans preparing to wrestle with the perils and mysteries of a galaxy that has fundamentally changed after the events of Halo 5.” He ended the post by teasing an “epic story” for players’ multiplayer characters.

The name of Halo Infinite‘s upcoming first season alluded heavily to previous Halo title Halo: Reach. The prequel took place shortly before Master Chief’s premiere in Halo: Combat Evolved and focused on elite Spartan squad Noble Team and their newest recruit Noble Six. Noble Team was tasked with delivering the artificial intelligence Cortana to UNSC ship “Pillar of Autumn” before the Fall of Reach. They succeeded, but they all died in the process, and are lauded as heroes for their sacrifice.

Halo Infinite showcased its upcoming multiplayer at Xbox’s recent E3 press conference, where it first announced the online multiplayer would be free-to-play. Players can purchase and level up battle passes, but will be able to select and continue leveling up different battle passes as the seasons end. The E3 multiplayer trailer highlighted returning weapons, vehicles and equipment, as well as the option to customize your multiplayer Spartan with a number of different options. Staten shared in his blog post that “[customizing] your character… is a huge part of the journey.”

Developed by 343 Industries and SkyBox Labs and published by Xbox Game Studios, Halo Infinite arrives on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows PC in Holiday 2021.
