Gothic Horror Novelist Anne Rice Has Passed Away at 80
Anne Rice, the author of Interview with the Vampire, died on Saturday after complications from a stroke, according to sad news. The author’s son Christopher, who has recently been working hard with his mother to bring her beloved works to life in two new AMC series, delivered the news. While the news may come as a shock to her millions of followers around the world, her legacy is set to continue next year with the release of the Lives of the Mayfair Witches and The Vampire Chronicles.
Her son Christopher announced the news on Twitter Wednesday, sharing a post he made on the author’s Facebook page. He said the following in a Twitter post:
Earlier tonight, my mother, Anne Rice, passed away due to complications resulting from a stroke. She left us almost nineteen years to the day my father, her husband Stan, died. Below is a statement I posted to her Facebook page moments ago. pic.twitter.com/g2VAK2XZjc

Anne Rice was born in New Orleans in 1941, and her novels were full of gothic horror and vampire romance, serving as inspiration for many other vampire-themed works of fiction, including True Blood and The Vampire Diaries. Rice’s first novel, Interview with the Vampire, was written in the early 1970s while she was grieving the loss of her daughter Michelle. The novel was an instant success, and it was made into a film of the same name in 1994.
AMC is adapting both her Vampire Chronicles and Lives of the Mayfair Witches novels into series. Rice was ecstatic when the projects were approved last year since it would allow both series of novels to be brought to life under the same banner, allowing the characters to be fleshed out and cross over as envisioned.
