The latest entry in the WarioWare series, Get It Together!, is making its way to Nintendo Switch this Fall. Here’s what fans should know.
Announced during the E3 2021 Nintendo Direct, WarioWare: Get It Together! is finally bringing the wonderfully twisted world of microgames to Nintendo Switch. For the first time in the series, players control Wario and company to tackle over 200 microgames, with strategy dependent on which one of the characters they play. Another series first is a focus on cooperative gameplay, with microgames being accessible via two-player co-op.
Get It Together! is the tenth game in the series, with the previous entry being WarioWare Gold for the Nintendo 3DS. The first WarioWare title, WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgames!, was published on Game Boy Advance in 2003, and since then, nearly every Nintendo console has received a WarioWare game. The franchise is also popular enough to have received two stages in the Super Smash Bros series: WarioWare, Inc. and Gamer.
WarioWare: Get It Together!’s Trailer
The trailer for WarioWare: Get It Together! shows off Wario with full voice-acting, courtesy of Charles Martinet, who voices multiple Mario characters, including the mustachioed plumber himself. The trailer also shows off all of the confirmed characters for the game, including Ashley, Orbulon and Mona.
Despite the story for the game insinuating Wario and his friends are trapped in the game by accident, the trailer shows Wario using this to his advantage by making it a part of his marketing pitch. One of the mini-games shown depicts Jimmy T in the classic Super Mario Land, fitting since Wario would make one of his earliest in-game appearances in its sequel. This also indicates that fans will likely see other microgames inspired by retro Nintendo titles.
The trailer also features one of the most significant selling points: “same microgames, different abilities.” By including different characters with unique abilities, players have to change their strategy based on who they play as, adding variation to a game with 200 plus microgames. The trailer ends by showing off multiplayer where each player controls their character.
What Is WarioWare: Get It Together! About?
Get It Together! is set in Diamond City, where Wario is once again trying his hand in game development. After the game is supposedly finished, not only does it not work as planned, it transforms Wario and company into miniaturized avatars of themselves and transports them into the video game. Now, they have to find a way to fix the game by playing a brand-new selection of microgames.
Throughout the story, players will take on levels hosted by the WarioWare cast, unlocking new characters and modes as they go. With a focus on cooperative gameplay, two players can play story mode together. Players choose three characters to be a part of their “crew,” which are randomly cycled through while playing microgames.
What We Know About WarioWare: Get It Together!
Each character in Get It Together! has a distinct ability that makes them play differently than the rest of the cast. Equipped with a jetpack, Wario can hover and dash to interact with games. Ashley rides her broom through the air and can cast spells to shoot projectiles. Mona rides her scooter at full speed, only stopping to throw her boomerang. With 12 characters, this new take on the WarioWare formula will keep the game feeling fresh as players adapt new strategies to beat each microgame.
The game will have three game modes: Story, Variety Pack and Wario Cup. Players will start by playing through the story to unlock microgames, characters and new modes. Variety Pack is a party mode for one to four players with 10 games to play with friends in local multiplayer. Wario Cup is an online game mode with rotating weekly challenges where players compete for trophies that convert to in-game currency and bragging rights on top of the leaderboards.
WarioWare: Get It Together! Release Date
WarioWare: Get It Together! releases on September 10 exclusively on Nintendo Switch. Unlike other first-party games from Nintendo that retail for $59.99, WarioWare: Get It Together! will retail for $49.99. This price point was alluded to in a recent survey sent out by Nintendo asking fans if they would pay $49.99 for a new WarioWare. The game is available to preorder, and there is also a single-player demo on the eShop.
