The Head Chef of Wanmin Restaurant, Xiangling, is among them. Although you’ll need to reach Adventure Rank 20 to get her, this ability to obtain Xiangling for free is just one of the many reasons she deserves the title of Genshin Impact‘s best character.
Despite being free, Xiangling remains one of the strongest characters in the game. Her strength and power come from her ability to create powerful combinations when teamed with other characters, making the most of her pyro elemental skill. Classed as a pyro DPS character, Xiangling’s burst damage can make her feel a little over-powered at times. Her elemental skill “Guoba Attack” deals a continuous area-of-effect pyro damage aimed toward the nearest enemy, while her elemental burst “Pyronado” tears through enemies with searing flames. With the right build, the experimental chef will be melting through enemies like butter.
Beyond her battle prowess, Xiangling has one of the best character designs in the game. Often seen with a smile, Xiangling is a warm and vibrant character, and her outfit “Red Pepper and Turmeric” perfectly represents this. With her hair braided into panda-buns, Xiangling’s adorable design is easy to love, and her eccentric personality and interesting dishes lead to some comical interactions.
However, nothing can top the quotes she fires at enemies mid-fight. Xiangling’s dialogue is immersive and lively, taking inspiration from her chef background and adding to the fun of playing her. During battles, players can expect to hear Xiangling slinging endless puns at opponents, such as “eat this” and “out of the frying pan, into the fire!”
When it comes to style and strength, Xiangling is seasoned to perfection, and she is only made better by her story. What Xiangling’s story quest lacks in raw emotion it makes up for in entertainment value. The chef’s fun story foretold bigger things to come in a very Xiangling way, showcasing her unconventional take on cooking while introducing the nation of Liyue. While it may be true that Xiangling’s story cannot compete with the likes of Xiao’s incredible quest “Butterfly Dream,” the culinary adventure certainly served up an appetite for the mysterious nation of Liyue.
A diverse and memorable game, Genshin Impact has a gorgeous art-style, intricate character roster and fantastic gameplay, so the title of “best character” should go to a hero representing each of these things. While there may be stronger characters, heroes with more in-depth story quests and plenty of other fantastic designs, Xiangling represents each aspect of Genshin brilliantly.
With a refreshing character design, charming personality and fun gameplay mechanics, Xiangling is the epitome of what Genshin Impact offers. A lighthearted, thematically-appropriate character, her story makes her a perfect example of Genshin Impact‘s cultural diversity, and her overall design earns her the title of Genshin Impact’s best character.
