A holiday-themed poster for the upcoming season finale of Disney+’s Hawkeye is missing a major character, who has yet to appear in the series.
The poster for the season finale of Marvel’s Hawkeye unites the show’s full cast but is still missing a major player: Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk/Kingpin.
Hawkeye‘s festive season finale poster places Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton and Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop in the spotlight but features all of the major players that have appeared in Season 1 so far. This includes Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, Alaqua Cox’s Maya Lopez/Echo and the Tracksuit Mafia, Vera Farmiga’s Eleanor Bishop, Tony Dalton’s Jack Duquesne and, of course, Lucky the Pizza Dog. Throughout the season, Kingpin and his influence have been alluded to, though he has yet to appear physically on screen. The poster reflects that, with his silhouette looming large behind the other characters.
Wilson Fisk has been teased throughout Hawkeye‘s first five episodes and photos from his upcoming appearance in the finale recently leaked online. A promo for the finale, titled “The Boss,” also teased his appearance in Hawkeye, Episode 6, though it only showed his legs and a cane. This will mark the villain’s first physical appearance in the show following his long-awaited Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Hawkeye Episode 5, “Ronin.”
Wilson Fisk/Kingpin was introduced at the end of Hawkeye‘s fifth episode. In a photograph sent to Kate Bishop, it was not only revealed that Yelena Belova was hired by Kate’s own mother to kill Clint Barton, but the photo captured Eleanor Bishop standing next to Wilson Fisk, the man that Clint has been worried about the entire time. While D’Onofrio did not appear physically in the episode, his name was listed in the credits. Similar to the new finale poster, Wilson Fisk’s silhouette was featured in the end-credits artwork as well.
D’Onofrio portrayed Wilson Fisk/Kingpin for all three seasons of Netflix’s Daredevil series, which began in 2015 before being canceled in 2018. This left the characters from all of the now-defunct Marvel Television shows off-limits to Marvel Studios for the next two years. However, rumors began to circulate that the actor would reprise his role for Disney+’s Hawkeye after it was confirmed that the series would include Alaqua Cox’s Maya Lopez/Echo, who in the comics is Fisk’s adoptive daughter. In the show, previous episodes show Maya Lopez being raised by an unseen “Uncle” father figure following her real father’s murder.
Though it was not officially confirmed that the character would appear in Hawkeye until Episode 5, D’Onofrio routinely trolled fans regarding his possible appearance in the series. It wasn’t just D’Onofrio fueling rumors, as Hawkeye executive producer Tina Tran seemingly hinted at his involvement in the series during an interview in November. Moreover, when asked about the crime boss’s involvement in the show, Hawkeye directors Bert and Bertie stated, “Watching the show, you’ll probably find out.”
The sixth and final episode of Hawkeye premieres Dec. 23 on Disney+.
