Despite creator Seth MacFarlane’s frustration with Fox, the network has no plans to cancel Family Guy anytime soon.
Fox has no intention of giving up on Family Guy just yet.
Over the years, Fox has built quite an impressive animated lineup thanks to the likes of The Simpsons, Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers. Which is why it wasn’t surprising when Fox decided to renew each series for two more seasons last year. However, the shows are thought to be incredibly expensive, which could put them on deck for cancelation, especially following the Disney-Fox merger. It doesn’t help either that the network has been trying to add to its animated lineup recently, though none of the new shows have managed to find the success of its top three animated series yet. As it stands, though, Family Guy seems unlikely to leave Fox just yet. This is likely to the chagrin of series creator Seth MacFarlane, who has openly criticized the Fox network for its ties to Fox News.
MacFarlane, who is also behind American Dad and The Orville, has been incredibly vocal regarding his displeasure of Family Guy‘s home. American Dad and The Orville were both previously Fox titles. However, after Fox canceled the series in 2014, American Dad was moved to TBS, where it continues to be a hit for the network. As for The Orville, that series moved to Hulu for its third season, which moved to the streaming service in order to better serve the show’s creative needs.
MacFarlane has also voiced his frustrations regarding what Carlson is able to get away with on the network, and the limitations his show is given in comparison. While some Fox titles have moved to Hulu following the Disney-Fox merger, it would seem unlikely Family Guy will be following suit. In an interview with Deadline, Fox Entertainment President Michael Thorn seemed confident the shows would be sticking around for a few more years. “We have the shows for a few more years, and we expect to keep them as part of our lineup,” Thorn said. “The Simpsons is still playing at the top of its game and so is Family Guy and not to mention, of course, Bob‘s.”
Recently, MacFarlane has taken to using Twitter to voice his frustration with Family Guy falling under the same corporate umbrella as Tucker Carlson. “Tucker Carlson’s latest opinion piece once again makes me wish Family Guy was on any other network,” he tweeted. “Look, Fox, we both know this marriage isn’t working anymore.”
Tucker Carlson’s latest opinion piece once again makes me wish Family Guy was on any other network. Look, Fox, we both know this marriage isn’t working anymore. The sex is only once a year, I don’t get along with your mother, and well… I’ve been having an affair with NBC.

Recently on Fox News, Tucker Carlson has defended counterfeit vaccine cards, compared mask and vaccine mandates to “my body, my choice”, and suggested those working to stop Covid should be “punished severely.”
Oh also, Peter Griffin can’t say “goddamn.”

Nevertheless, MacFarlane’s tweets don’t appear to have much of an impact on Family Guy‘s future at this point in time.
Family Guy returns for its 20th season on Fox later this month.
