Fairy Tail is full of interesting characters with intriguing personalities, and while each character is interesting in their own way, there were many that fans just couldn’t get enough of. Among these characters are people who had the potential to move the story forward in a more interesting way and would have made the anime longer and more enjoyable.
These are very powerful characters that viewers needed to see in action more often, and their lack of screen-time was quite disappointing. Even now, some of these less-frequently seen characters are many fans’ favorites.
10 Jellal Was Popular Despite His Lack Of Screentime
Jellal became a beloved character when he became an ally to the Fairy Tail guild. He is a very powerful wizard and a former Wizard Saint who wields a very rare magic. Though he was shown quite a few times, his influence in the anime was hardly felt. As a result, many fans failed to realize just how powerful a wizard he is. Being a Wizard Saint doesn’t say enough about his power or personality. To this day, fans still do not know the full extent of his power.
9 Fans Will Never Know If Lyon Vastia Was Superior Or Equal To Gray
Lyon was first introduced as an antagonist plotting to revive a demon with the hopes of defeating it himself. He fought Gray and nearly killed him. Gray got more powerful over time and even acquired Demon Slayer Magic, but Lyon got stronger too. Unfortunately, it was difficult to tell who was stronger as the score was never settled. If Lyon had gotten more screentime, perhaps fans might have gotten an answer.
8 August Never Got To Confront Natsu As His Nephew
Odd as it might seem, Natsu is indeed August’s uncle. August was probably aware of this though he was never certain. That said, if August had a good chat with Natsu before or after his fight with Gildarts, it would have changed the dynamic of the entire story in a good way.
Instead, the show put a lot of focus on Natsu’s fight with Zeref and August’s battle with Gildarts. August needed more time to really show why he was known as the Wizard King, or at least a longer backstory showing how he helped Zeref build the Alvarez Empire.
7 Irene Belserion Would Have Worked Better As A Neutral Character Rather Than A Villain
Irene ended her fight with Erza by taking her own life. This meant that she ultimately felt a little for Erza and chose to spare her life. Her decision to spare Erza would have been better displayed with her abandoning the battlefield like Brandish did. Any future episodes of her coming to pay a visit to Erza would have been most welcome. This would have been a better way to advance the story, adding another powerful individual to Fairy Tail’s list of allies.
6 Gildarts Was Rarely Seen In The Anime
Gildarts was probably too powerful to be seen so many times in the anime. With the exception of the Spriggan 12 and Acnologia, there was no foe the Fairy Tail guild faced that Gildarts couldn’t beat on his own. If more powerful villains were more abundant, there would have been a need to see more of Gildarts in action. The story still progressed fine, but fans still feel a bit deprived of such an awesome character.
5 Hyberion Was The Second Strongest Wizard On Ishgar
As a member of the prestigious Wizard Saints, Hyberion supposedly possessed immense magic power. He was only seen in action once when he fought against God Serena, but his abilities seemed most impressive. One has to wonder why he was almost never seen in the anime, given how powerful he is. In fact, the Four Emperors Of Ishgar hardly had enough time to showcase the power that got them such lofty titles.
4 Wolfheim Is Yet Another Emperor Of Ishgar That Was Barely Shown
Wolfheim is the De facto number 2 of the Ten Wizard Saints thanks to God Serena’s defection. Like Hyberion, his introduction was rushed. Given his position on the continent, one would expect him to have had a more epic introduction, probably an entire arc where he or some other emperor showed up to save the day.
Seeing how the Wizard Saints were held in high esteem, it’s unfortunate that someone this powerful was introduced so late in the show and was almost never seen again after his first on-screen battle.
3 Igneel’s Power Was Too Impressive To Be Seen Just Once
The Fire Dragon King was simply too powerful for words. His epic appearance and ferocious battle with Acnologia were exhilarating to behold. That said, fans barely saw him in the anime, and his impressive power was seen only once when he fought Acnologia. He was a major part of Natsu’s life and much of Natsu’s journey was built around the goal of finding him. It would have been nice to see him dominate more battles or at least have had a backstory of his rise to power as one of the strongest dragons in history like the one they did for Acnologia.
2 God Serena Needed His Own Arc That Showcased His Full Power
Despite being the top wizard in Ishgar, God Serena only got a few minutes of screentime in the entire anime. If fans had gotten to know him sooner, before the Alvarez war, then his betrayal of Ishgar would have hit harder and gotten the heroes more riled up to fight him. Unfortunately, his character was wasted and only used to show how powerful Acnologia was when the latter killed the former Wizard Saint.
1 Mystogan’s Departure Was Perhaps The Anime’s Biggest Mistake
When Mystogan first showed up, viewers couldn’t help but be intrigued by his character design and ominous personality. Everyone wanted to see more of him and what he could do. Mystogan had such a huge potential that many fans came to love him even with him being shown very few times in the anime.
The fact that he was an S-Class wizard of the Fairy Tail Guild said much about him, which was why viewers wanted to see him in battles more often. As fans are unaware of his abilities when pushed to his limit, they can only guess which of the powerful characters he has surpassed.
