Evil Looks Ahead to Season 3 With Two Cryptic Teasers

[ad_1]

Two cryptic teasers for Paramount+’s Evil indicate that Season 1’s mysterious numbers and puzzle pieces may play a role in the upcoming Season 3.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the Evil Season 2 finale, “C Is for Cannibal,” now streaming on Paramount+.

Paramount+’s Evil just wrapped its second season and is looking ahead to Season 3, which may include some of Season 1’s unsolved mysteries.

The streamer posted two cryptic teasers on the series’ Twitter account. The first, which was previously shared in March 2020 on the social media platform, was shared again on Oct. 8. It spotlights all the titles of the Season 1 episodes—which all feature numbers—as they fade to black smoke and add up to 974. (Season 2’s episode titles did not feature numbers, instead going for an alphabetical theme.) It is still unclear what the numbers mean, but showrunner Robert King did previously state that they are a “puzzle” that is not easily solvable.

The second teaser was posted hours after the Season 2 finale streamed and features puzzle pieces coming together to form what appears to be a map of some kind. The puzzle is also a throwback to Season 1, with each episode (except the pilot) featuring pieces that briefly appeared on the screen. While it is unclear what image the puzzle pieces form, some fans have deciphered that they appear to assemble into a map of Manhattan, which is the main setting for the series. Season 2 did not include any new puzzle pieces, instead focusing on the in-story sigil map of the 60 houses of evil.

Evil premiered on CBS in fall 2019, earning a quick Season 2 renewal after receiving critical acclaim. After a long delay due to COVID-19, ViacomCBS opted to move the series to Paramount+. It follows psychologist Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers), priest-in-training David Acosta (Mike Colter) and tech expert Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi) as they investigate seemingly supernatural and paranormal phenomena for the Catholic Church.

Season 2’s finale, “C Is for Cannibal,” saw David finally ordained as a Catholic priest but still struggling with his sexual fantasies. Meanwhile, Kristen, who feels guilty for killing LeRoux, confessed her sin to David, who granted her contrition and absolution. However, with one sin atoned, another presents itself, as Kristen—who is married—and David—who is now a man of the cloth—share a tender kiss.
