Everyone Who’s Been Part of the Justice League’s Nuclear Hero

[ad_1]

Ronnie Raymond and Martin Stein may be the most well-known Firestorm pairing, but they’re not the only one. Many people have been part of the Firestorm Matrix over the years and sometimes keeping track of who’s Firestorm and when can be confusing.

With this in mind, here is every individual who has ever been a part of the nuclear-powered Justice League member.

Ronnie Raymond

Ronnie Raymond was a high school student when he became part of the original Firestorm with Martin Stein. When the two were caught in a nuclear explosion, the accident fused the two together, creating the nuclear powered hero. As Ronnie was the only one conscious during the accident, he controlled the body of the hero while Stein acted as the disembodied voice of reason.

Although Ronnie is best known for working with Stein, he has fused with others over the years to form Firestorm. He also worked alone in the 90s before his death in Identity Crisis. When he was resurrected as a White Lantern during Brightest Day, he fused with his replacement Jason Rusch. This partnership would endure into the beginning of the New 52 and would even see the two able to transform into two versions of the same hero, independently of one another.

Martin Stein

Martin Stein was the other half of the original Firestorm duo. An accomplished professor, Stein was often responsible for the handling of Firestorm’s more scientific powers, such as transmutation. After another incident fused Ronnie with the Russian hero Mikhail Arkadin, Stein was briefly separated from the Firestorm Matrix.

Shortly after this, it was revealed that, originally, Martin Stein was meant to be the sole identity within Firestorm as Earth’s Fire Elemental. Stein was able to separate Ronnie and Mikhail from the Firestorm Matrix and became a new Fire Elemental Firestorm. Stein left Earth for a number of years before returning to fuse with Jason Rusch.

Mikhail Arkadin

After being caught in the Chernobyl blast, Mikhail Arkadin was turned into a metahuman with the ability to produce an all-consuming fire. He became the hero Pozhar and was pushed into conflict with Firestorm by the Russian government. Similar to the accident that created the original Firestorm, Pozhar and Firestorm were caught in the nuclear blast of an atomic bomb. This incident fused the two heroes together to create an all-new Firestorm.

This combination was an unusual formation as it consisted of more than two partners. Mikhail and Ronnie would fuse to become the hero but were controlled by Martin Stein, who was separate from the Firestorm Matrix but still had influence over it. Now separate from Firestorm again, Mikhail has regained his former powers and identity as Pozhar.

Svarozhich

Svarozhich was the Russian government’s attempt to clone Firestorm. Instead, they created a soulless being without the reasoning mind or morals that the real Firestorm had. To stop Svarozhich, Ronnie and Mikhail’s Firestorm were told that they had to fuse with the clone and permanently become part of the Firestorm Matrix, unable to separate again.

When Martin Stein assumed the role of Fire Elemental on his own, the other identities that existed in the Firestorm Matrix, including Svarozhich, were finally separated from it. However, this Firestorm identity has not appeared since.

Jason Rusch

After Ronnie’s death in Identity Crisis, the Firestorm Matrix searched for a new host and found it in the form of 17-year-old Jason Rusch. Although he started out as the sole identity in the Firestorm Matrix, Jason would fuse with a number of people during his time as the hero. This included Martin Stein, former hero Firehawk, and eventually a resurrected Ronnie Raymond.

Jason remained the dominant part of Firestorm for a number of years, much like Ronnie did in his and Stein’s original pairing. This even continued when Ronnie returned, with the two becoming two separate Firestorms for a time. However, the New 52 had Jason assume the role of the brain to Ronnie’s brawn, guiding the rasher Ronnie with the kind of levelheaded intellect first associated with Stein.

Firehawk

Lorraine Reilly was subjected to experiments to try and recreate the accident that created the original Firestorm. Even though these experiments failed to create a new Firestorm, they did grant Lorraine fire-based powers that led to her becoming the hero Firehawk. After Identity Crisis, however, she decided to retire from hero work.

When Martin Stein went missing after Infinite Crisis, it was revealed that Firestorm was now made up of Firehawk and Jason Rusch. Jason was able to allow Firehawk to fuse with the Firestorm Matrix so that the two could track down the missing Stein.
