When discussing the future of Kit Harington’s Black Knight in the MCU, a producer says Harington is not going to be the character “necessarily.”
It seems as though actor Kit Harington may never suit up as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Black Knight, according to recent comments made by a producer on Eternals.
During a set visit for the upcoming film attended by Toronto Sun and other outlets, producer Nate Moore commented on the uncertain future of Harington’s Black Knight in the MCU. Although the actor will appear in Eternals as the man beneath the armor, Dane Whitman, Moore remained coy when mentioning whether audiences will ever actually see Harington as Black Knight in action. “[Harington’s] not going to be Black Knight necessarily,” the producer said, “but that is something that we get to play with down the road.”
This isn’t the first time Harington’s future as the Black Knight has been muddled with uncertainty, as the actor spoke about the importance of not looking too far forward during a recent interview.
“I’ve got no idea whether my character goes on or not,” Harington said. “I had read up on who he could be, or might be. So there’s the possibility for a longer trajectory. And hopefully, I think this is the tip of the iceberg for my character. I hope. But I just don’t know, you know? I’m as in the dark as anyone else. And I try not to live too far ahead in the future with anything. Even when I was in Game of Thrones, even on the sixth season, I presumed the seventh season wasn’t going to happen!”
Moore talked during a recent press conference about potential plans to turn Eternals into a trilogy, with the producer cautioning fans that there are no guarantees sequels will be made. “It’s not something that is a must-have,” Moore said. “Obviously, we have ideas of where we could go, but there isn’’ a hard and fast rule where we have to have three of these things and this is the first.” If the influx of early negative reviews for Eternals is any indication, however, then the future for Marvel’s newest pantheon of heroes and villains may not be as promising as fans might hope.
Dane Whitman first appeared in a 1967 issue of The Avengers and is the third character to bear the title of Black Knight. Outside of being an expert swordsman and wielder of the powerful yet cursed Ebony Blade, Whitman is also a scientist specializing in physics, though his expertise also extends to technology and engineering. As such, the hero has become known for his scientific approach to mystical problems, with Whitman even having displayed strong strategic and tactical skills during his time as a leader of The Avengers.
Eternals lands in theaters on Nov. 5.
