Eternals Promo Features ‘Cameos’ From Thor, Spider-Man

A new promo for Marvel Studios’ Eternals name-drops Spider-Man and Thor, with the two heroes making “cameos” via archive footage.

The latest promo for the fast-approaching Marvel Studios film Eternals name-drops two major Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes, who even make minor appearances via archive footage.

In the promo, dubbed “Fun,” the Eternal known as Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani) makes a case for why his family actually has a leg up on Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, saying that while the Avengers may have Thor and Spider-Man, the Eternals have Thena (Angelina Jolie). The teaser goes as far as to use footage of both Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Spider-Man (Tom Holland), with both clips seemingly being taken from 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War.

Notably, both Spidey and the God of Thunder have new films on the way. In fact, the very next MCU movie after Eternals is Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is slated for release later this year on Dec. 17. No Way Home marks the third solo outing for Holland’s version of Spider-Man. The film will dive deep into the multiverse, with certain characters from Spidey’s cinematic past already confirmed to return, namely Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin and Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus from Sony’s Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man movies. (The comment section of the Eternals promo seems convinced Marvel included Spidey so as to tease an incoming trailer for No Way Home, but whether or not that’s actually the case remains to be seen.)

Coming a bit further down the road is Thor: Love and Thunder, the MCU’s fourth solo Thor film. Scheduled for release on July 8, 2022, Love and Thunder sees Hemsworth reprise his role as Thor, with Natalie Portman also reprising her role as Jane Foster so as to follow in her comic book counterpart’s footsteps and take up the mantle of “The Mighty Thor.” Between No Way Home and Love and Thunder is Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is scheduled for release on May 6, 2022.

In the meantime, however, Eternals comes out in just 10 days on Nov. 5. Helmed by Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao, the film stars Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, Harish Patel, Kit Harington and Salma Hayek, as well as the aforementioned Kumail Nanjiani and Angelina Jolie. It follows the ancient Marvel Comics race known as the Eternals, who must reunite to save the world after having secretly lived among humans — separate from one another — for 7,000 years.

Marvel Studios’ Eternals releases in theaters on Friday, Nov. 5.
