Emmys to Require Vaxx Proof AND Negative COVID-19 Tests for ALL

The Emmys, which will be hosted by Cedric the Entertainer this year, will take place on September 19 in Los Angeles. The event will take place in downtown Los Angeles and will be broadcast on CBS, but this year they will ask all guests to test negative for COVID-19 and produce proof of full vaccination, as Los Angeles continues to witness an increase in coronavirus cases. According to various sources, the Television Academy has announced that attendees of both the Primetime Emmy Awards and the Creative Arts Emmy Awards — the latter of which includes the technical award categories — will be required to produce confirmation of full immunization and to test negative for COVID-19.

According to Deadline, the ceremonies will take place under an air-conditioned tent on the Event Deck at L.A. Live, a location located just behind the Microsoft Theater, which has been the usual Emmys venue. Only nominees and one guest will be allowed to attend. It’s unclear whether Emmy guests will be required to wear masks, but L.A. County has ordered masks for large outdoor concerts and festivals, after the reinstatement of masks for interior facilities such as theatres, gyms, and restaurants.

The city of Los Angeles has seen breakthrough infections accounting for 30% of all new COVID-19 cases in recent weeks, so even vaccinated people are getting sick. Breakthrough infections are coronavirus instances that develop in patients who have been fully immunized.

Last year’s Emmys were a ratings disaster, with a record-low 6.9 million viewers.
