To celebrate today’s release and day one launch with Xbox Game Pass, we wanted to explore how the companion game, Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising, establishes the universe and builds toward the upcoming Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. To do that we pulled answers to some of our most popular questions from legendary game designer Yoshitaka Murayama.

Eiyuden Chronicles: Rising is a prologue. How much time is there between Hundred Heroes and Rising? Months? Years? Decades?
This is a couple of months to a year before the main story starts, and the characters from Rising will be in the main story of Eiyuden Chronicle.

Rising is set before the war in Hundred Heroes breaks out. Do the characters feel like war is coming? If so, how does it affect them?
There’s not much of a sense of war as a backbone yet, but Rising stands as a story that can be enjoyed on its own.

Why make the companion game, Rising, a city-building, side-scroller with real-time action combat rather than turned-based like Hundred Heroes?
Unlike the main story Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising is a smaller game. Therefore, the production time was limited, and we selected a format that would allow players to have fun within it.

What would you say to fans that are concerned about the team spending time and resources on Rising that could be spent on Hundred Heroes?
Rising is planned and produced independently by Natsume Atari, which is a separate team from the main production team of Eiyuden Chronicle. Please don’t worry, each team is doing their best for both Rising and the main story.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising combines a thrilling adventure through ancient ruins with the tale of one town’s rise from the ashes. Drawn by lenses and other treasure in the nearby Runebarrows, our heroes learn that the town is struggling to rebuild after an earthquake and decide to help. Along the way, they’ll resolve disputes between eager adventurers and wary locals who don’t think the Barrows should be disturbed. And they’ll learn more about each other’s reasons for seeking treasure, deepening their bonds in the process.
