Dragon Ball X FILA Collaboration Announced

[ad_1]

FILA will produce a series of sneakers based on Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball series, the first of which will be a pair inspired by Vegeta.

Dragon Ball fans and sneaker heads both have something to celebrate today with the reveal of FILA’s new anime collaboration.

The new Dragon Ball sneakers are a pair of FILA Rennos, customized to feature the blue and yellow color scheme of Vegeta in his Frieza Force battle armor. The shoes will be available via Foot Locker and will retail for $100 in mens sizes, and $90 for kids. The new sneakers were unveiled at the Funimation anime panel at this year’s New York Comic-Con, where it was also announced that FILA would be producing more sneakers inspired by Dragon Ball characters, which will be announced sometime in November.

The new sneakers are just one of the many Dragon Ball announcements to come out of New York Comic-Con today: the first real trailer for Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero was shown, which showed off the movie’s new CG animation. The movie’s producers also revealed several new characters, new redesigns for several of the series’ supporting cast, and a few new story tidbits about the upcoming 21st movie in the franchise. Piccolo and Pan are set to be major players in the new movie’s story line, and it was revealed that Piccolo has been training the young quarter-saiyan, much like how he trained her father, Gohan, following Goku’s death during his battle with the Saiyan invader Raditz. The new movie still does not have a final release date, but the producers say it is on track for a 2022 premiere in Japan, with an international release coming sometime shortly after that.

Dragon Ball first debuted in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump more than 37 years ago, and in that time it has managed to stay one of the most popular anime and manga franchises in the world. Akira Toriyama’s martial arts epic is the third best selling manga ever, with over 250 million copies in circulation worldwide. The series is seen as one of the foundational works of the shonen anime genre, and its various anime adaptations have been credited with playing a key roll in expanding anime’s mainstream popularity outside of Japan, especially in the United States and throughout Latin America. The franchise continues to this day with the current Dragon Ball Super manga, which is supervised by Toriyama and features art by the self-taught illustrator Toyotarou.
