Dragon Ball and luxury streetwear brand Billionaire Boys Club announce a new line of clothing branded with Akira Toriyama’s iconic characters.
Dragon Ball has announced a new clothing collaboration with Billionaire Boys Club.
The new collection was announced on the official Dragon Ball website, and will feature hoodies, sweatshirts, long-sleeved shirts and tees. Only one image of the collection has been released so far, which shows off several pieces from the collection that feature images of Goku and Frieza facing off, the martial arts master (who is also a cat,) Korin, and Bulma, appearing in her outfit from the Frieza Saga. The collection will be available for sale on Jan. 2 in Japan, and will also be released through the brand’s online shop and partnered retailers in the United States and China at a later date.
Billionarie Boys Club was founded in 2003 by musician Pharrell Williams and Japanese record producer and fashion designer Nigo, who also created the famous A Bathing Ape (BAPE) brand. The brand maintains boutique stores in New York City, Miami, London and Tokyo and is also stocked at department stores such as Nordstrom and Saks.
The new Dragon Ball collection is just the latest of several streetwear collaborations with anime franchises to debut this year. Mobile Suit Gundam teamed up with Nike earlier in the year to produce sneakers and limited-edition Gunpla model kits based on Gundam Unicorn, and more recently teamed up with Supreme to produce a new variant of the classic RX-78-2 that was branded with the company’s iconic logo and red color scheme. Champion also produced a line of Naruto Shippuden branded apparel, while UNIQLO released the latest of its many anime collaborations, a new Pokemon collection featuring designs by street artists Meguru Yamaguchi and James Jarvis, earlier this fall.
Dragon Ball originally premiered in 1984 and continues to be as popular as it ever was. Created by Akira Toriyama, the series continues to this day with the on-going Dragon Ball Super manga, which continues Goku’s adventures and details everything that happened in the martial artist’s life in the ten years between the end of the Buu Saga and the post-time skip finale of Dragon Ball Z. New chapters of the manga are released monthly by VIZ Media. The latest movie in the franchise, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is scheduled to be released in Japan on April 22. A new trailer for the movie was shown at this year’s Jump Festa, which features Gohan battling the movie’s new villains, Gamma 1 and Gamma 2. An international release date for the movie has yet to be announced.
