Athletes get up close and personal with the prehistoric titans from Jurassic World: Dominion in a new TV spot for the film and the Winter Olympics.
Olympic athletes have close encounters with a variety of dinosaurs from Jurassic World: Dominion in a new TV spot advertising both the film and the Winter Olympics.
Following an initial video focused on Team USA alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin, the new spot brings in snowboarder Shaun White, a three-time gold medalist, and Nathan Chen, a three-time world champion figure skater. The three athletes move through a snowy outdoor landscape, where they come face to face with Jurassic World’s raptors, sauropods, and even the mighty Tyrannosaurus Rex. White’s sky-high jump brings him to the eye level of a Diplodocus, and Chen completes a spin on an iced-over lake to find himself facing a herd of Parasaurolophus.
The Opening Ceremony for the 2022 Winter Olympics will take place on Feb. 4. The TV spots featuring Jurassic World‘s dinosaurs are expected to continue airing until the games begin.
The Jurassic universe was restored to life with 2015’s release of Jurassic World, followed by its 2018 sequel, Fallen Kingdom. The long-running franchise has continued to expand, through the Battle at Big Rock short film in 2019 as well as Netflix’s popular animated series Camp Cretaceous. Although Fallen Kingdom, directed by Colin Trevorrow, is said to be the final installment in the Jurassic World trilogy, the prehistoric adventure setting of its world still promises more stories. Fans of the live-action effects can look forward to a Jurassic World spinoff series, reportedly in development at Amblin Television with Trevorrow and Jurassic Park director Steven Spielberg both attached as producers.
Universal Pictures has already released the prologue for Dominion, which shows the dinosaur king T-Rex walking around like it owns the drive-in movie theater it found itself in. Although originally intended for the final cut of Dominion, the footage instead serves as a teaser setting up the events of the upcoming sequel.
New images from the film also allow its human stars to take some of the spotlight, including a still of Chris Pratt, who plays Owen Grady in all three films, being chased by a scary new breed of raptor known as the Atrociraptor. Trevorrow described these as “far deadlier” than the well-known Velociraptor. Grady will also get a new ally played by DeWanda Wise, and the core cast from the original Jurassic Park film, Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, will finally be back to reprise their legacy roles.
Jurassic World: Dominion stomps into theaters June 10, 2022.
