November’s Death of Doctor Strange #3 introduces a villainous new supernatural Marvel team known as The Three Mothers.
This November, the death of Doctor Strange gives way to the introduction of a new villainous Marvel Comics trio: the Wyrd, the Crown and the Crawling, known collective as The Three Mothers.
The Three Mothers will debut in Death of Doctor Strange #3, which is set to hit comic shops on Wednesday, Nov. 17. “The Marvel Universe will be the target of new and fascinating mystical threats when the Sorcerer Supreme falls in The Death of Doctor Strange, an upcoming limited series launching this September,” Marvel Comics’ official press release reads.
“Written by Jed MacKay with art by Lee Garbett, Death of Doctor Strange will present the final saga of Stephen Strange and explore the dangerous repercussions his death will unleash on the world he so fiercely guarded,” it continues. “With no Sorcerer Supreme, Earth is left entirely defenseless and fans can get their first glimpse at a new team of villains that will take advantage of this new status quo on the cover of November’s Death of Doctor Strange #3: The Three Mothers!”
Designed by Garbett, The Three Mothers are described as being deadly trio “unlike any the Marvel Universe has encountered before.” The group consists of “the Wyrd, an alien mage-priestess; the Crown, a powerful warrior-queen; and the Crawling, a monstress composed of acid-mouthed worms.” The House of Ideas hints that the group is powerful enough to destroy the Marvel Universe and we know it and even floats the possibility that The Three Mothers were, in fact, responsible for the death of Doctor Strange.
In addition to the main, five-issue Death of Doctor Strange limited series launching in September, Marvel is also set to publish a number of tie-ins. Death of Doctor Strange: Avengers #1 and Strange Academy Presents: Death of Doctor Strange #1 are both set to arrive in October, followed by Death of Doctor Strange: Spider-Man #1 and Death of Doctor Strange: White Fox #1 in November.
